Epstien files exhonorated Michael. Apparently it may have been a smear campaign against someone on the spectrum that wouldn't work with them.

I haven’t looked further into it myself, but I also heard much the same.

Props to him if this is anywhere close to being real. He was one hell of a damaged person carrying a shitton of psychological scars, but it sounds like he really did care about the kids.

And he was one hell of a good singer. I’ve got most of his albums on vinyl and MP3.

Well… he’s not wrong.

He’s not correct, either; he’s just less wrong than he’s correct.

Capitalism is just legalized exploitation of the have-nots that would be wholly illegal under a just and equitable system.

[-] rekabis@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 hours ago

I absolutely approve.

I would do it, too, if I could get over the squick of even dealing with them in the first place.

So you are saying that millions of employers are rank morons and absolute idiots for hiring any man, instead of employing 100% women?

Because that’s the biggest counter-argument.

Capitalism is all about maximizing profits. If an employer could save 22¢ on every dollar of payroll by hiring only women - and payroll is frequently the very largest expense of a business - they would have to be among the lowest-IQ functional adults in existence by hiring ANY man instead of all women.

Companies go through extraordinary lengths to shave 0.01% off of their expenses, and yet you expect anyone with more than two functional neurons to believe they’ll leave a 22% gap in payroll just lying around, unexploited? That employers would willingly pay 22% more for the exact same work simply because it’s being done by a dude??

Giggity.

I would absolutely love if that gender pay gap actually existed, because that means I could instantly and immediately operate almost any business 22% cheaper than any other company out there, conferring an overwhelming financial competitive advantage in my favour. I could become a multi-billionaire within a few short years with that kind of operational leverage.

Furthermore, I wonder why this isn’t taught in every single BBA degree out there. Because that would be one hell of a buff to any business plan. And yet, labour market participation overall tends to be broadly equal between the genders. Gee, I wonder why?

Finally: at least I posted links to evidence. Yours are just wild claims with no supporting evidence.

Seriously, I skipped the rest because my eyes were rolling so hard at how confidentially incorrect you are. Uninstall the app, go into the mountains, have a cry and deal with your issues - because this ain't helping you. In fact, it's only making things worse for you. I was trying to help you find some middle ground, but you wear your bias on your sleeves - and it reads through what you write.

Cool: a mix of sour grapes and an ad hominem in an attempt to socially shame me into silence. Sorry, but I have an exceedingly low tolerance for anti-reality ideology of any kind, much less that which is found percolating through female supremacism. You can take your gender bigotry and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine.

How “profitable” are our fire departments? Our wildfire services?

How much “revenue” does the RCMP bring in?

Are our road crews and highways divisions being sufficiently “economically viable”?

All this hand-wringing about Canada Post is an alt-right psi-op designed to be one of many wedges designed to facilitate trickle-up economics; to impoverish the working class in favour of the Parasite Class.

Canada Post has no business being privatized. It exists to serve Canadians independently of any profit margin, and I would eagerly argue in spite of any “losses”.

People always forget that abortion - at least in sane places - is the mothers choice,

I would still call that insane, however it’s only half as insane as no abortion rights at all.

The only truly sane option are abortion rights for all… including men. It’s called a paper abortion.

And before anyone goes clutching their pearls and asking “what about the child?”, the only possible response is -- WHAT CHILD?? The “child” is a fetus within the first trimester, it has no needs beyond what the mother’s body is providing it. There is nothing to support until at least six months after the man has that opportunity to “abort”.

And if the woman wants that child, she then has the opportunity to decide if she wants it without a legally-coerced ATM.

Paper abortions are truly equal rights made manifest, providing to the man all the same rights to “abort” as the woman does, at least from a legal perspective. Because all any kind of abortion is, is the ability to no longer have any responsibility over the fetus. The only thing a woman’s abortion adds is the physical removal of the fetus.

"Deadbeat dads" are a perfect example of this, where men who obviously weren't ready to become a parent, is put in a position that will make their lives worse.

A fair minority were, but the legal systems in many areas are not designed to let them be a father once the woman decided that the relationship was over.

That when the woman is treated by the legal system as the “presumed caregiver”, the best option that most men have - that does not lead to life-long poverty as an ATM, or serious psychological damage, or both - is to just walk away.

So I appreciate the olive branch, but the details are a lot more ugly and less simple than what you broached.

there's the gender pay gap

Oh, you poor little ignorant gender bigot. The “gender pay gap” DOES NOT EXIST to any meaningful degree.

This pernicious bigoted thing was “created” by taking the pay of all women, and dividing it against the pay of all men. It is quite literally comparing the pay of male lawyers against female baristas.

The truth is that when you take into account the career chosen, the specialties acquired, the hours worked, the overtime accepted, the riskiness of the work conducted and the willingness to work on-call, the actual “wage gap” falls to between 0% and 3%, depending on industry examined.

And in many metro regions, women now out-earn men. Where are the calls to close that “wage gap”?? crickets

Finally, Google was charged with underpaying women, yet when they investigated in 2019, the vast majority of “gender pay gaps” they found were men being underpaid. Not women. Men.

social dogma and beauty standards

Women have only themselves to blame. For the most part, women don’t doll themselves up for men - they do so to dominate other women and to establish a social pecking order based on how much resources (male wealth) they have access to.

It’s why two women at a fancy/prestigious public event will have meltdowns because they’re wearing the same dress - as in, economizing because they chose a male that’s too poor to provision her a unique dress - yet not a single man will give a single shit about two women wearing the same dress, and they themselves will be wearing highly similar if not identical suits and tuxedoes.

In reality, a large proportion men are either ambivalent about makeup or even dislike extensive makeup. It’s why almost all apps that strip away makeup in videos and photos were developed by men as a tool to see the real woman underneath. It’s why “catfishing” is nearly always a woman-on-man deception.

forcibly circumcize them

looks at rates of male circumcision, and how it negatively affects men in similar ways

You’re… being facetious and ironic, right?

Having your sexual organ half sliced off is not the sole domain of women. It’s occurrence in men - with many well-documented negative side effects - is many orders of magnitude more prevalent.

Like, FGM doesn’t even rate as a rounding error if we include it in all genital mutilation. Is it bad? Sure. Should it be stopped? Of course. But it’s blown wildly out of proportion.

girls and women across the world being subjugated

Granted, almost all studies show girls and women being a majority of slaves across the planet.

However, almost all studies also conspicuously exclude forced military conscription from that same definition. Include that, include all of the child fighters across the many guerrilla conflicts currently in play, include the men sent to fight on very real threats of long incarceration or even summary execution, and men would make up 90-95% of the victims.

Women don’t hold an edge on being actual victims, as much as the ideology of mainstream feminists/female-supremacists need it to be. A good chunk of their “victimizations” are either based on statistical lies or are outright self-inflicted.

When young people face a system explicitly designed to extract as much wealth out of them as possible, nerfing their economic potential well into adulthood via crushing debt, is such a response really that unexpected?

Finally, the bean counter steps down so that an engineer can take the reins again.

I mean, at least he didn’t fuck things up like so many other bean counters have. But he was only ever a bean counter.

And I’m talking about all fascists directly involved in the current coup, from Musky-boy and the DOJ appointee Ed Martin all the way down to the individual DOGE staffers.

At some point, America is going to have it’s own version of the Nuremberg trials, and there needs to be some sort of shadow archival records system that can reliably emerge out the far end with sufficient evidence to make these monsters hang.

This happens both on a feed as well as within a thread.

Happens both on my direct instance as well as on a random instance out there.

I go to scroll, and there is a nearly one-second pause before the screen jumps to where I have scrolled. If I start very slowly, there is no pause, but I am talking about an unreasonably slow start to the scroll.

Working with an iPhone 15 Pro Max, hardware limitations should not be in play here.

Working with the latest version of Avalon.

I have seen these before, but for the life of me I cannot seem to recall what they are called or what they’re for.

Google search - especially image search, where I’m trying to bring up similar items - is now a total potato and seemingly capped at one screen of results in a secure and sanitized browser.

When I bring up an image by itself, I can do a long press on the image and get the app Safari drop-down interface (see attached), which gives me (along with other tools) the option to download the image to my camera roll or to copy the image for pasting elsewhere.

Unfortunately, the Avelon app blocks this action entirely.

If there is a workaround, it gives no indication as to what it is, forcing the user to thrash around and discover the box with the out/up arrow in the lower right.

If there is a way to whitelist this behaviour, there is also no way to inform the user on what setting they need to adjust.

At any rate, this is a noticeably frustrating suboptimal UI/UX, and should be addressed.

The Rot Economy (wheresyoured.at)

I particularly enjoy how Google got savaged:

Google has a similar yet slightly different story, where their core product - search - has gone from a place where you find information to an increasingly-manipulated labyrinth of SEO-optimized garbage shipped straight from the content factories.

Google no longer provides the “best” result or answer to your query - it provides the answer that it believes is most beneficial or profitable to Google. Google Search provides a “free” service, but the cost is a source of information corrupted by a profit-seeking entity looking to manipulate you into giving money to the profit-seeking entities that pay them.

The system almost 100% works as intended! But it doesn’t work for me. It doesn’t work for you. It doesn’t work for a vast majority of human beings across the globe. But yet it absolutely works as intended for the Parasite Class, the 0.01% at the very top.

And this is why it’s a cancer of our society. Until it has been excised and replaced with something more humane, human civilization is doomed to collapse. You cannot have an economic ideology that demands infinite growth on a planet with finite resources.

There's no rhyme or reason to the way we publicly fund health services in Canada: six per cent of dental care, 40 per cent of home care in long term care, 50 of drugs, nothing for hearing aids or glasses or contraception. Where's the logic there? As a result, we have the least universal healthcare system in the world. Ponder that for a second. The least universal healthcare system in the world. Not something to be proud of. Medicare does cover everyone, but it covers everyone inadequately. Stated simply, what's wrong with Canadian health care today is that we're trying to deliver 21st-century care with a 1950s model of delivery and funding. We have an Edsel, but we need a Tesla. And my point here is that we need modernization.
