So. I was often told that negative emotions are from the devil or because of my sins, so naturally if I wanted to be a good Christian, I was happy. right? I am happy? Yes definitely. I am not a sinner, so I must be. (Supported by that chart in the article)

Surveying people on emotions is very weak evidence.

Wasn't long ago Matrix was deemed a threat by Europe because encryption.

Funny how maybe encryption is a good idea

I had a co-worker who wrapped every function generated by AI with try/except (discarding the error).

The unit tests passed flawlessly!!!! They also didn't test anything at all

I was livid. My boss was an idiot and I tried to explain the issue, but I got in trouble because I took too long to fix it. 1000 of lines of mangled shit.

I just found a new job (got more pay too)

They really should GPL it all. The US will steal it and create AWS services

Wow. Amazing. I basically encrypt everything by default because I'm so paranoid. Sometimes multiple layers of encryption

[-] reabsorbthelight@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

Yeah, wtf is going on. GPG was released in 1999 and encryption existed before that too. https://www.ssldragon.com/blog/history-of-ssl-tls-versions/

How is this unencrypted

I'm looking for ex-US investment funds, including bonds. My goals are

  1. Low cost broad index ETF
  2. Non-USD hedged (preferably not currency hedged at all)
  3. Equities, government bonds, corporate bonds, etc.
  4. US citizen compatible or UCITS (I want to recommend to Americans)

Mastodon is awkward to use for me. Filters and following give poor control. Lemmy gives me only what I want to see.

I like bluesky feeds and wish mastodon had them. Then it would be easier to use imo

I got the Lumie 300 and it's amazing. I immediately felt better. Like way better. Winter still sucks for other reasons, but this was a huge upgrade for my life

It wakes you up with gradual simulated sunrise. I feel like I'm back in the south where I grew up

I'm was a on the anxious side for a long time, but I'm fine now. With people I care about, I just express "I'm really tired/hungry/bored/sore/etc." at random frequent times. It's pretty easy and makes it clear that my emotions are usually not about them.

Also European countries can pull out of the union fairly freely, and your taxes are paid to the country and the country then pays to EU (right?).

So you have the freedom to defund the EU if it gets corrupt. The US pays taxes first to the fed and then states. And no chance in hell a state can withdraw

I knew most of it was spam. I just figured it was propaganda from various governments

Wtf it literally never crossed my might to use a forum like this. So fucking dumb. It's like everyone is scrambling for a couple percent points over the next

I was wondering why people warm up in sweatshirts. I guess it helps

I'm looking for a super warm winter coat that will last me forever. Something that will keep me warm around -30 C. I'm thinking military surplus, because it should theoretically be more durable (right?).

Price isn't a huge issue if the quality is worth it.

US rules control a lot of how Americans can invest their money.

not to mention the US taxation of Americans abroad. My understanding is that it's very difficult for Americans to invest in EU funds and/or use EU banks. Americans in Europe I know opt to keep their investments and large account balances in the US, with spending money in EU accounts.

I'm not an economist, but if these rules were gone, would this help the EU economy, by allowing US money to be invested into Europe more freely? For example, concerned Americans could move their accounts to EU investment funds/accounts

Welcome Mercosur! (www.reuters.com)

ASUNCION - Top officials from the EU and the South American bloc Mercosur signed a free trade agreement on Saturday in Paraguay, paving the way for the European Union's largest-ever trade accord after 25 years of negotiations.

The agreement, designed to lower tariffs and boost trade between the two regions, must now gain the consent of the European Parliament and be ratified by the legislatures of Mercosur members Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

My 5.5yo daughter is very shy, so I've been pushing her into hobbies to help managing her shyness. I've talked about how being shy is fine, but it's something to work on, otherwise she'll have a really hard time making friends. I'm shy and told her about that.

I took her to a gymnastics class (we do gymnastics together at open gym), but she refused to join the class. I said if she does one activity (even just a game at the end), I'll get her ice cream. We spent the time sitting on the side.

She didn't do it, so I figure no ice cream then. She's pretty mad. I'm not mad with her, but just of the opinion that we had a deal, and if she wants the reward, she needs to earn it.

Too harsh? Too soft? Alternatives?

My country heavily uses Facebook for all events. Sadly I can't find cool events without it. Even leftist groups are heavily on Meta, which I can't understand....

Does anyone have experience pushing to get communities off of Meta? Suggestions?

I'm in a NATO "ally" to the US country

I have been experimenting to treat my SAD. So far light seems to be the most important, but anecdotally when I take melatonin at night, I feel more awake in the morning.

Is this known to help? I couldn't see any research on it in my search. I'm wondering if the melatonin usage helps control my rhythm better.

My LongFast message history keeps disappearing. Is this expected?

I'm on Android with GrapheneOS

My access to in person coaches is limited, so looking for online. I'm at intermediate level and plateauing, so I'm looking for a coach who could help me break the plateau.

Any recommendations?
