Just sharing in case it helps anyone.

I had a partner who constantly was making me feel bad about my body and kept telling me I wasn't smart and that they knew deep down I was a shitty person. But they said it in a way of "I will fix you so you understand that and accept how shitty you are".

At first I didn't believe it, then I recognized the red flags and broke up, but by happenstance they came back and put on a show I fell for, and then it started again but it took months for me to leave it.

I realized they made me feel shitty, and then reinforced that I was, and basically I believed that I was a piece of shit but they were the only person telling me the truth. They were the only one who saw me as I am.

I eventually was able to get out, but it really took a toll.

Anyway I just met someone who is the KINDEST person I know and while I won't thrust any responsibility to help me on them, they are already helping me heal. Maybe the fact they are helping me heal on their own volition shows how kind they are.

Anyway I'm a little drunk and my ex showed up with their new partner I guess, but it was an event they knew I'd be at, and they saw my bike outside of the venue, and chose to come in holding hands anyway. I left immediately and I'm home now but yea fuck them.

Personally I feel more connected to the Vancouver BC/ Seattle/ Portland corridor than with the rest of the US, so I feel more comfortable saying I'm a Cascadian than an American.

I hate to say it, but yes. Everything we've predicted from trump has come true thus far.

The insurrection was predicted

The migrant camps were predicted

The ice raids were predicted

Roe v Wade was predicted

~~Selling~~ Giving Ukraine to Russia was predicted

Banning DEI was predicted

The list goes on but more importantly these were all seen as hypothetical worst case scenarios. We should stop treating the next steps like they are hypothetical. America has fallen, and civil war is next.

Former presidents at least recognized they had the responsibility to take care of both the people who voted for them and the people who didn't. Trump only sees the people who voted for him and the people he needs to make an example of.

I hate to say it, but the DNC is weak and won't help us anymore. I supported Kamala like hell and believed that they could figure it out but they just don't and won't.

I'm not a violent person. I hate the thought that I'd ever be forced into a situation where I need to either learn how to fight or die (because right now I'm SOL). I never wanted to find myself rooting for assassins and feeling like the world would be better off of certain people were dead. I'd rather believe the world would be better off if certain people were alive.

But all I see in the future is a federal coup backed by sycophants in the Senate and supreme Court that then collides with the governors of blue states who won't bend the knee.

TL;Dr if we don't go full dictator, we are going to civil war, and we deserve it.

I usually assume when Europeans complain about American beers, they just are complaining about our "domestic" beers like Bud Light, Coors, PBR, etc. which makes sense, they are our bottom shelf beers.

I recently chatted with someone at a party who said "no, all American beers are bad" including microbrewery beers.

I've never been to Europe so I wouldn't know, but I do like my Left Handed Milk Stout, NWPAs, and hell even the hipstered out IPAs.

Are these what y'all are referencing?

Heaven is a peanut farm

One for you and me

With friends and music, banquets and balls

And a good man named Jimmy

.

Heaven is a peanut farm

Surely it's the best

There's a porch with a sleeping dog

One where you can find rest

.

They say there is a man out there

Who made sure every heart he would fill

When God said "it's okay, you can stop your work now"

He said "no, I don't think I will"

.

When you come to this peanut farm

You will be filled with this delight

Friends and family, we gather 'round

To wish Mr. Carter goodnight

So I thought that BlueSky was set up just like Lemmy in that it was fully decentralized into a sort of "terrorist cell" structure that wasn't focused on profits, but then found out that BlueSky has a CEO. Since this is a business, what makes BlueSky fundamentally different from Twitter or Instagram?

I feel like so long as a social media platform exists through monetization (in some form or another private companies need to make money), we are ultimately replacing one dictator with another.

Oh yea, you can cook it with any vegetable, fruit, or flower, milk, and rock salt to get a tough seafood stew. I those are pretty powerful, like your defense goes up for 5 minutes.

Alternatively mix it with monster parts and you get an elixir but what fun is that?

I was in 5th grade when my dad told me about the Nuremberg trials and the subsequent Milgram experiments.

Edit Wtf you sick perverts, I was talking about when your parents talk to you about authority bias and how you need to be suspicious of power structures that tell you to do things that you would normally consider horrible acts.

Jesus you can't talk about Nazis without someone dragging out Sex Ed these days smh

You choose the bear for other reasons

Other girls wanna dress with the times

You wanna be the dressing and all of the seasons

All they want is to give you pain

They might say they feel bad about it

But maybe I should get the hell out of town

Because I'm not gonna be Dahmer's dessert

So I think a lot of folks don't know the context this comic was written in and how misleading the message is.

This is an attack comic on a recently created 3rd party, the Forward party, created by Andrew Yang. There are several pillars to this party's mission, such as UBI and Campaign finance reform, but the core of the party is the ranked choice vote.

If you aren't familiar with ranked choice vote, Here is a great video explanation , but essentially it gives voters the ability to vote for multiple candidates and removing the entire "voting 3rd party is throwing your vote away" situation. If the forward party is successful to getting this passed in every part of our government, it would fully upend the two party system.

This comic is pointing at Andrew Yangs slogan in his 2020 run for president as well as for the forward party- "not left, not right, forward". What he is trying to do is tap into the discontent found in a majority of Americans. Most voters would like to see choices beyond Dems and the GOP and these voters are all across the political spectrum.

Someone like my father, a former Republican who is disillusioned with the party but is still heavily free market, and myself who believes more in regulation and strong institutions both agree on the issue of RCV because we are in the same boat of feeling like we aren't actually represented in our government.

I'd say this comic is a perfect example of "if you ignore the details of a philosophy and redefine it's rhetoric, you can make it stand for anything you want".

TL;Dr this comic is trying to convince you that the Forward party is the exact opposite of what it really is by ignoring any nuance.

Edit: Here is a video explaining the positions of the forward party. Keep a critical eye while watching it as I'm not trying to sell you on the party, but at least for you to be aware of it's existence.

I think it is fair to judge Biden by his record more than his accute gaffs. He's old af, so on a minute to minute basis, he's unable to keep a coherent thought. But if you look at what he does in a more macro sense, his administration has been brilliant. It's the entire "I'm smart in my head but I can't fully articulate it" situation. Basically he has solid philosophy, he just can't sell it anymore.

Frankly, if Biden didn't have to go into the public, he would be a great president for the next 4 years (with the support he has). Harris will be sharper in public, and I think she will take the Biden positions one step further.

Ultimately to win elections, Democrats need to be better story tellers. They keep pulling up statistics and data, but they need to create a more visceral message. The GOP fear monger with stories of "an immigrant invasion", but Dems have yet to create a blockbuster "women dying of lack of abortion access" story. I mean those stories are out there, they just need better messengers.

My sister's take has been that since trans women don't go through the pain of menstruation or giving birth, they have no right to suggest they "earned" being a woman.

I mean that and she thinks Disney became woke and they ruined her beloved 90s films. I remember talking about Putin and how he said the most Bond villain thing with "you in the west believe history is a struggle between oppression and freedom, I see it as a struggle between chaos and order". Her take is history is a struggle between modesty and debauchery and we've gone too far in the debauchery direction.

I love her, and she can surprise me with her humor, but overall she can turn into Angela from the office, but she's not even religious.

As someone who's self employed, I feel like self employment is a form of rebellion against this system.

My dad teases me that his socialist son is now a capitalist because I give music lessons and host events. I'm pretty sure I'm not because I don't profit from the labor of someone else, I do all the work and anyone who helps me isn't existentially tied to me.

Hello, I'm meep_launcher, and I'm a recovering moderator.

Not only did my tools get taken, after the mass exedus, my mod queue exploded. There were so many more racist reports than before, and I was mod of a political satire subreddit.

Turns out the exedus took all the left leaning redditors leaving behind real pieces of work.

Glad I made the switch, and I set up cartographyanarchy here, so maybe I can get back to doing what I love, shitposting maps.

Shitpost maps with me!

One more edit, I want to get this community up and running, so if you post in the next 24 hours I will write your map a song and post the link in the comments.

Oh also DM if you want to be a mod! Definitely looking for folks skilled in the art of Lemmy, coding, or just being all around wholesome.

In the article they noted this was the same for millennials and gen x before them. I'm going to assume the standard for youths purchasing cars was with the baby boomer generation. I know my dad told me when he was young, you would purchase a cool car that didn't work for the equivalent of $100 dollars, get a friend to tow it home, then work on it for a few weeks to get it running. He told me how much he missed his MG Midget, which let's recognize as a cool ass car for a kid to have. He could fix that car with a wrench, a stick of butter, and a deck of cars*. All his friends would be doing the same.

Nowadays it would be a $1k junker, and you'd need to have a computer science degree to fix the onboard computer while having all the specific tools to get into their proprietary parts. There are older cars too, but the standard of fixing a car has increased, all the while each generation has less time and money to do it.

  • This was a typo, but I love this typo. You say deck of cards, I say deck of cars, Thank you @[email protected] !
