Serves indefinitely? Not even 8 or 16 year terms but indefinitely?? Surely the US supreme court is proof of why this is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad idea

Just found out from a screenshot in a tweet that Marc Aandreesen considers Nick Land to be some kind of patron saint of "techno-optimism". Setting aside Land's ugly views about everything... I didn't think optimism was what he was known for. More like grasping, desperate, disgusted embrace of the onward march of capital.

All I can say is bring it on. These guys seem to assume women will be furious about being replaced in this hypothetical scenario. I imagine most women would be relieved to have more free time and greater opportunities. Losing your role is only scary if you have benefited from your social position.

Jesus, that second post.

[Benzos are] not only a great amnestic, it’s also apparently one of the most heavily prescribed drug classes historically, and used recreationally - which puts very strong lower bounds on the drug’s safety in practice, and means it’s probably readily available.

Yeah, because no widely used drug has ever turned out to be harmful, right?! Right?! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to huff some glue. After all, glue huffing is widely practiced recreationally - by kids, even - so it's probably safe, right?

The actual Vatican seems to use its own .va domain name, which neatly sidesteps the .com vs .org dilemma.....but doesn't explain why they let randomers use catholic.com and catholic.org.

Isn't this just how every tech company starts out? Google just want to help you find things on the web. Facebook just wants you to help connect with friends. We are very serious people doing serious work for humanity and you need to listen to us, and possibly give us things for free. It's all about positioning.
