My first guess with this would be: they were read-only, then they wanted to post something or write a reply to someone and at the time considered it to be a one-time thing and created sort of "throwaway account" for that specifically, but then they kept visiting the place and it kind of just stick with them. Yet again, my guess might be completely wrong. But at least this is one of the possible motivations behind such accounts.

Good response. A bit offtopic but:

Earlier this month our Jim called upon Bethesda to remake Morrowind rather than Oblivion. "You cowards," Jim wrote, calling Morrowind a "special game, where a beautifully unique fantasy setting is locked away behind technology and interface design that has aged particularly badly".

I prefer Morrowind's UI to Skyrim's, even with SkyUI mod:

  • It's more fun to have individual item icons than just text or generic icon just for item type
  • Those classic brass borders are beautiful
  • Choosing one of multiple reply options work more reliable in Morrowind, in Skyrim when playing on PC you often click one option and it still picks the wrong one because you didn't scroll enough

Overall, this whole system was obviously designed for consoles and it doesn't really work well on PC even with mods. I don't really remember Oblivion's interface, but the one in Morrowind's is something that I think definitely needs less "fixing" than Skyrim's for example. And I don't think it aged bad at all. Also hotkey system was great, I really miss it in Skyrim, potions are way less fun when you need to go through a bunch of menus every time you want to drink one.

The date it posted on this site doesn’t convince me it is a joke, and even if it is, it’s not funny.

Found this posted on March 28 elsewhere:

So Medium and Substack are similar? And Ghost is also an open-source alternative to Medium as much as it is alternative to Substack?

Due to the weird domain names, there will be privacy.lemmy.dbzer0.com, but the domain is just so unfriendly that people will also create privacy.lemmy.world

So you basically saying people will tend to duplicate communities on lemmy.world just for the sake of friendlier domain name? Why do you think people use that logic when creating communities? Also, when you're registered on some instance and you want to find communities you go to global search and use that, all from UI, and at that point you're not even looking at browser address string, so why is that even important? You click to subscribe to communities, and then see them in your stream and your sidebar, domain name being completely irrelevant to any actions you do.

What I would expect to happen is: their posts quickly start getting many downvotes and comments saying they sound like an AI bot. This, in turn, will make it easy for others to notice and block them individually. Other than that, I've never heard of automated solutions to detect LLM posting.

As an ESL: "IKR" aka "I know, right?". I thought it has kind of passive-aggressive/sarcastic undertext, meaning something more of a "bro cmon this is obvious/trivial", while it's actually seems to be quite the opposite - emphatic affirmation of someones excitement about something. Keep in mind, I've never heard it IRL as I rarely talk to native speakers IRL, it was just a wrong impression from chats and online discussions.

3-4 hours a day 5 days a week worked fine for me when I was working. Meeting hours mandatory and the rest flexible. Remote work. With on-site work short-hours-more-days is more problematic because you have to spend time getting there and getting home, choosing less days with more hours is an obvious optimization.

I personally mostly watch gaming streams as a background for work, never as focus activity. As a main activity I definitely prefer to play myself rather than watch others playing, with a rare exception when I'm just interested to see a few minutes of gameplay of some new game to see if I'm interested in it.
