Kinda forgot this website existed.

Comrades I need help finding a good text on why the nuclear family is the way it be. I remember reading something really good on here about it. Basically how the family until is atomized the way it is in a way that wasn't historically the case because of capitalism.

The author of the book was very religious and the intended message was supposed to be about the god thing. He tried to imagine a somewhat realistic way that the problems he saw with where science was heading would surface, and of course just ended up imagining a problem caused by capitalism, because almost every problem is caused by capitalism.

Suddenly remembered the time a Nazi tried to groom me into fascism as a teenager. That was a formative experience I probably habitually underestimate the importance of.

Dude was pretty smart in many ways. He ended up teaching me all the high level strategy of how to infiltrate social and government institutions and get away with fascist crimes by sniffing out sympathizers among the police and using the legal system to hide. Also taught me how to use people politically without relying on them to cover you, basically gave me the whole playbook. And a lot of practical fun things that would be useful in Minecraft. And many more things besides.

For some reason he taught me the "how" before he really taught me much of the "why". He just assumed I'd be on board when he "dropped the black pill" because I'm white.

He tried to make a dramatic reveal but I was not impressed. He taught me all this stuff only to end with "it was all da jewz all along" which was just like :confusion: . My reaction seemed to rattle him a bit, like I ruined his plans.

He ended getting a job :fedposting: not long after I stopped talking to him. He had been trying for a while at that point though. No I'm not joking. And he very explicitly many times told me the only reason he would ever get a job like that is to be an inside man to do fascist shit.

Weird thing is he was an insanely effective and knowledgeable teacher. If he wasn't a Nazi he would be a pretty cool dude. I don't like thinking about it, probably why I had forgotten about that whole thing.

This has been my weekly hexbear therapy post thanks I'm fucked up for a lot of reasons

Pretty good. Main critique I would make is that it seems a tad unfocused. There is a consistent train of thought for the point you are actually making, but the point you are pretending to make is unfocused.

For instance, in the "One may argue... ...but at what cost?" part, you don't really make it super clear what the cost is. Or make a consistent argument before and after that makes it super clear what the cost is. The straight reading of this has the author say a lot about why no free speech is bad, but they don't really say why free speech is good.

If both your satirical voice and your straight voice are focused the essay reads a lot easier, takes less effort to understand.

The admiral in charge of the Pacific campaign would have stripped him of command if he was allowed to. Everyone competent hated him.

That is literally true. If you don't fight back it's not war, it's something else. Usually colonization.

It's more than just that, it makes people hard to predict in ways that are frustrating. Like, they will make bizzare and extreme decisions because of whatever nonsense they believe, but not very often. Just often enough you can't trust them, not often enough you can figure out the rules.

So it's just a constant source of anxiety, when will the day come that it happens.

Is there any good media that shows Romani culture in a way that isn't a caricature, and isn't meant to be educational? Like, I remember growing up seeing movies and tv shows showing jewish culture enough that I knew a lot of basic stuff about it without having to be explicitly taught about it.

The only thing I remember ever seeing about Romani in general media is crystal ball fortune teller stuff and cartoon characters who steal things. I didn't even know they were an actual people that existed until I heard my european relatives complaining about them existing too close to other people.

Ended up in a long discussion one on one with a friend of a friend in a voice chat and what in the fuck. She seemed like a nice person, was fun to play games with, but the things she said made me sick.

The conversation started with some bs about Antifa. She was spouting the typical liberal bs, how they are terrorists, burning down buildings and killing people, etc. I said that it's mostly anarchists burning stuff down(not wanting her to think I'm some sort of antifa terrorist by defending them directly), and she said she thought they were the same thing. I said most antifa people are liberals because most people in general are liberals, and antifa isn't united by ideology, just opposition to Nazis, neo-confederates, racists in general. I was trying to glide over the more surface level stuff reactionaries like to scream about and get to talking about more important stuff people aren't programmed to lash out at as much.

This worked, as this lead to a discussion of what exactly are liberals. I gave the classic definition of supporting free markets, supporting businesses and capitalism in general, believing in personal rights that are all just things that can't be done to you by the government, and not guarantees. The act of defining it made her mad, I think because it implies people who aren't liberals exist.

The conversation went all sorts of places, I mostly asked neutral questions and let her say what she thought. Eventually she said something about authoritarianism, I brought up that a corporation and a government restricting what you can do is equally harmful if they are restricting you in the same way, basically the common sense stuff that people somehow never think about but quickly leads to radicalization once they do. (I've gotten like six people to become socialists or anarchists just by bringing up that point lol). She rejected this saying actually it's your choice to quit your job. Which lead to talking about healthcare being tied to your job. Which lead to saying people aren't entitled to healthcare, a living wage, etc. People are only entitled to what they earn by what labor they are capable of. People who need can't earn enough to pay for what they need to live are just liabilities anyway, if they really are worth keeping alive charities will take care of them.

She presented it like "you could just not pay for healthcare, after all how often do you use your health insurance? Like I go to the doctor once a year, maybe twice if I get hurt or sick". When I told her I need prescription medication to stay alive, and that I have to go the the doctor four or more times a year for that, plus I wear glasses, plus anytime I get sick or injured on top of that, she said "it sounds like you are a liability".

If I can't get medication, I die within a few months most likely. I told her this, that she is telling me if I lose my job I deserve to die. She refused to say this directly, instead saying people who can't afford to pay for what they need to live don't deserve to be taken care of. In response to me asking if she thinks I deserve death because of being born with an easily treated medical condition that only requires medication to keep under control, she would just repeat this. Like she knew what she wanted was absolutely horrific and evil, to the point she refused to directly state it, yet she stood behind it anyways.

It has completely changed my perspective on her and now I'm feeling really depressed. Because I know a lot of people think that way. I know almost certainly that many people I know think that way, yet I'm afraid to talk about it with them because I know that knowing for certain these people who are almost friends want me die will make me feel like crap every time I see them. And I don't wanna cut all these people out of my life, because they are friends of friends and cutting them out means cutting out other people I like. Yet if I know they want me dead, I won't be able to handle pretending to be ok with that, and so be forced to cut them out anyways.

I'm afraid by having that conversation with her I may have ruined one of my friend groups for me because she's usually there if everyone else is.

Why do people have to be so shitty? Like how can people who will literally tell someone to their face they deserve to die for the circumstances of their birth be this common? I don't understand it.

Godammn vacuum cleaner broke. Took it apart, its just a part of the brush roller that is broken. Should be an easy fix. But they don't sell spare parts for my vacuum. They never have, they just want you to buy a new one. So one little easily replaced plastic bit makes the whole thing into non-functional mostly plastic waste. The vacuum is even clearly designed to be easily repaired, it's one of the most intelligently laid out appliances I've ever seen.

But it's not profitable to sell spare parts, so I have to send this thing to a landfill if I can't figure out some ghetto fix. This intentional wastefulness is one of the things that pisses me off about capitalism nearly every day.
