I think this is why we need more animated Star Trek. While no recent animated Trek show has really managed to get past the equivalent total runtime to a ~5 season, 10 50-minute episode Trek series, I think animation could be a medium to get past some of the budgetary and labor limitations of a live action show in order to return to something closer to a TNG-style season. Not only that, but you could have the cast doing and interacting with things that would simply be impossible to do with any quality in a live-action show.

Although truth be told, I think half my opinion is just fueled by sourness over the end of Lower Decks and Prodigy. I really think though that animation could be the medium for a serious mainline Star Trek series that isn't (originally intended as) an excursion into a genre. Unfortunately, we sort of live in an animation dark age because of executive and general stupidity.

I just feel like they squandered their interesting new setting with season 4 (granted, I haven't finished season 4); there were so many plots that could have sprung organically from the fall of the Emerald Chain and the rebuilding of the Federation, but no, we have to make up this stupid DMA as a big bad again, and we have to do another plot about dealing with grief.

Heck, we could have kept the DMA and still blown up Booker's homeworld, but let his family live and instead have written a story about living in diasporas, rather than beating the dead horse that is DISCO's take on individual grief.

I feel like the first five episodes will be “I’m crying because I dropped a cookie”, and then suddenly the Breen or something blow up half the Federation and crap gets real.

I feel like the premise would be much more interesting if we substitute a planet for growing up in a starship and what the heck the children do in a red alert.

Funny, but I also almost puked seeing Data that way. I guess he can survive as only a head, though - just need a new body.

I will clarify I haven't watched a lot of Discovery, Enterprise, or Picard.

However, problems of the sort you mention (not necessarily the exact ones you mention, but similar or of concern) aren't exactly new.

For instance:

• TOS showed Chekov assaulting a Klingon women (under the influence of an evil space alien before).
• It is heavily implied Spock did something with Saviik in III. Also, in general, they just ruined a good female character. (III might actually rival V in terms of being the worst Trek film.)
• TNG did "Code of Honor".
• Also, TNG very much did weird things to Troi, including rape to rape-adhacent things. Not necessarily as bad as T'Pel, from what I can tell, but still messed up nonetheless.
• I'm sure there's an example for DS9, but my mind subconsciously puts it in a pedestal and is blocking me at the moment.
• VOY unnecessarily sexualizes Seven.

I think the truth of all Star Trek is it is flawed, but that we can critically acknowledge those flaws while managing to look past them so we can appreciate and enjoy the good parts.
