The best part of Lower Decks was all the little deep cut references to obscure concepts from old episodes. Especially referencing things from the Animated Series, which had introduced a lot of things that were never brought up again until Lower Decks.
I also appreciate that, perhaps, it's the art department adding their own layers to things on top of the dialogue. There's just so much happening in the background that is never mentioned/noticed by the characters; it's all for us to enjoy instead.
The giant skeleton is probably my favorite reference like this.
Whoa I didn't make that connection. Thanks!
I just noticed it myself during an all Romulan chronological run, but only after seeing that TOS episode the first time earlier this year. The reverence and attention to detail is astounding on LD.
Is that Mick Fleetwood in the last panel?
I was hoping someone would call that out. Thanks.

Lwaxana: [judges you in Betazed]

Are we sure the bottom ones aren’t just Dulhanians from LD s3e2 “The Least Dangerous Game”?
Star Trek sure has a lot of ruddy blonde scantily clad alien species.
I get what you're saying.

What tips me toward the TOS species is the purposeful presence of a child. That detail would likely not have been included if it were not on purpose.
If you notice, the Dulhanians all wear golden cuffs on their necks, which the parents of the family are also wearing, while the Vaalians do not have them.
Also, the Vaalians have distinct cheek patterns, which the family lacks.
So the title is based on a cyberpunk short story called "I have no mouth and i must scream"
There was a point and click narrative video game made based on it.
Rather dark story.
Did a quick dive and... fuck. Shit's dark. Like, O'Brien level dark.

I played the game before I read ghe short story and holy crap the things that ai does for no other reason than am bored
