Hi,

I'm considering transitioning completely to Linux for my main workstation. However, due to the nature of my work I rely extensively on a few Autodesk products (namely AutoCAD, Revit) as well as Ms OneDrive to coordinate with clients. I did some research and these applications are not available natively and can't run through Wine. So I was thinking setting up a virtual machine with a windows image in order to run these two programs. They don't need extensive GPU. I was wondering if there are any obstacles / issues I should be aware if I chose to go this route? Thanks!

I'm considering getting into it with some add-ons, even though Blender will be adding in the upcoming release potentially. What are your thoughts? Have you played around with it yet? Seems very interesting for concepting

Where the fuck was all this rage in November, my fellow Americans? We already had four years of Trump, January 6 insurrection, a disastrous reduction in foreign relations. But I guess that wasn't enough???

These monkeys went bananas: 40 monkeys escaped from a research facility in South Carolina, and local authorities on Wednesday warned residents to stay away.

“Residents are strongly advised to keep doors and windows secured to prevent these animals from entering homes,” the Yemassee police department said on Facebook this week. “If you spot any of the escaped animals, please contact 911 immediately and refrain from approaching them.”

The monkeys that absconded were from the Alpha Genesis research center, which bills itself as “primate research specialists”. Police said that they have set up traps around the area and are “utilizing thermal imaging cameras in an attempt to locate the animals”.

Yea no. Try having a nuanced discussion on any (insert heated topic here) on Lemmy and watch the labels fly out faster than the ejaculate of a post pubescent 15 year old.

When there is nothing at stake for you you have the luxury of voting third party. That is essentially a vote for Trump. We know you know this because it's been explained to you in every post. Must be nice having all that privilege.

The rest of us, in the meantime have to live with the consequences of your decision. As parents, as students saddled with debt, as members of every minority community under attack, as children whose school lunches are being taken away, as children of DACA: a very hearty fuck you from the bottom of our hearts.

I don't know how people got that take from Tropic Thunder when they explicitly make reference inside the movie to how messed up and wrong it was. Like, that was the joke. RDJ was playing a character so full of himself that took method acting to it's extreme. Am I missing something? Id love to be educated

My experience on this platform has been mixed so far but one thing I've noticed the most is a significant contingent of the user base is really reactionary in their discourse.

This is a very typical exchange I have here :

User: I don't like this color because it's red.

Me: I don't know, looks more like purple to me. What about red is bad?

User: Why don't you fuck yourself in the face you fucking cuntfuck!

Me: OK...

Like, what gives? I don't have this experience on other platforms. I have arguments but never this shutdown meccanism.

I don't know if others are experiencing a similar situation. My all feed is very sparse with engagement. If I sort top six hours or by top 12 most posts have between 5-10 comments. I feel like there was more in the past? Is engagement dropping off? I'm on lemmy.world as my instance.

Regardless of the online mob, she was done dirty by the Italian police system. A small town cop singled her out without a shred of evidence while the Rudy Guede who was later convicted for the murder and who's DNA was all over the place was on the run in Germany. Just tragic situation all around because she spent 2 years in jail awaiting trial. I live in Italy, and I can tell you the Italian justice system is a farce.

EDIT: Correction was made to this post. Rudy did not confess to the actual murder as far as I can find. He did confess to being in the apartment however. Thanks to @Jobo@feddit.uk for the correction.

What exactly is a bookwyrm instance and how does it differ from a Lemmy instance?

Way to lose all credibility in one event

Remember guys, both sides are the same. We should probably vote third party or something. /S

Honestly, I'm shocked how low the pay was for the lead artist behind the Zelda landscape. Or is that normal pay for this category?

You mean she's learning how to build coalitions to get real policy enacted? Or is she not enough purist leftie for you?

At least on Reddit there was some leveling of downvotes built into the algorithm. This site is making it seem like any slight disagreement leads to downvotes thus encouraging more echo chambers. Maybe it's the communities I'm commenting on?

It's funny, because mixed use zoning is some of the most desirable places to live in terms of market value. People don't want to drive for. Every. Single. Thing.
