And as the article says - this data is only from individual tax returns. It doesn't cover companies.

I stumbled across a sports article from a US publication and thought it interesting that it showed the USA leading the medals table.

Instead of the regular table that gives weight to Gold, silver and bronze, they just see total medals.

I sorta like it. Celebrating all medal winners equally is nice. It feels a little like fudging the numbers, though.

Super sad case. She tried to kill him to ease his suffering. If he'd been on the record supporting her decision, I think the sentence would have been very different. And she lost him to natural causes anyway. 😞

So, I've just done something that I said I'd be reluctant to do in future without community consultation and blocked an instance.

I don't think anyone will have any issues with it, but I figured I'd let everyone know since this executive decision affects all aussie.zone users.

If you have a kid/grandkid who loves footy, this is the time of year to take them. A single adult can take three kids to a game for the price of one ticket.

For me today, the adult ticket was $58. With two kids, that worked out at less than $20 a ticket.

Take your own snacks. Prices at the footy are actually offensive.

I suspect that the majority of voters never wanted to leave in the first place. Results-wise, there was like 1.2% in it. And the leave voters were more likely to actually turn up. The problem is that too many "remainers" didn't actually vote.

Just when you thought you'd made it through the holidays. 😀

I think a half-day strike is just as bad for parents than a full one. We still need to arrange for the kids to be taken care of until 12:30. Apparently we can send them in anyway, but they won't be in class and it isn't exactly supporting the teachers to do that.

I hope there is progress in the negotiations and the strike gets called off.

I just sort of assume everyone has watched the episode by now. If you haven't, I recommend doing so before you get to the end of this article.

It isn't a monopoly though. Even ignoring the Blizzards, Epics and GOGs of the web, any developer can host their game on their own Web site and market it completely independently of Steam and keep 100% of their takings.

The monopoly on storefront argument holds water in mobile land where side-loading a game is not possible/easy. In the world of computers though, I don't think the same standard applies.

Dear aussie.zone users,

I can delete photos. Just give me the url of the photo you need killed and I'll happily delete it for you. But also, don't (accidentally) upload a nude.

If Australian Sushi is cultural appropriation, I'd love to hear this person justify "New York Pizza".

New York Pizza is famous globally and recognised as something different to Italian style Pizza. Is that also cultural appropriation?

When it was released, Chrome was revolutionary. Sandboxing individual tabs into their own processes was a stroke of genius. Until then, if a single site ate up all your memory and crashed your browser, all your tabs/sites died and you had to start again.

It really was the best browser for a hot minute before others copied the idea.

I agree with him. If you don't know what you are doing and just blindly install something off the Internet, it's a security concern. I would not recommend that most users side-load apps, either. You have to remember that this crowd is not representative of the average user.

Just don't take the option away from those of us who do know what they are doing.

In defense of Google, I have a first-gen Pixel that still gets unlimited Google Photos uploads.

This phone is seven years old and Google had kept its commitment that photo uploads would remain free for the life of the phone.

Curiously, most common Lemmy sites and even Reddit are not blocked.

Why were you fired?

  • I stole a coworker's wallet
  • I defrauded Walmart buying gift cards
  • I am very stupid

That's an impressive trifecta.

I don't understand. Are dolphins campaigning for land rights or something?

Maybe that's the problem, they can't hold signs to protest. Perhaps if we figured out a way to help them hold signs they'd be able to live on land again.

Before we get to that point, has anyone asked a dolphin if they want to live on land?

I'm genuinely surprised the Lemmy exodus has been as large as 3%. Reddit will be just fine. This isn't like Digg > Reddit.

I mean, this is actually a lot like Digg > Reddit, the same class of user has migrated. It's just that Reddit has long outgrown that techy/nerdy demographic. I doubt they'll miss us much.

Nor to I want that other 97% to follow us to Lemmy, especially.
