They asked me to put my hands behind my back and all that stuff, and I realized what was going on.

Because she was too dangerous to be cuffed normally, or not cuffed at all?

Als I hate this doubly for the kid. Your mom getting arrested for your slightest sign of independence will fuck you up.

I thought with cow file systems programs didn't have to explicitly reflink since normal copies are already reflinks?

Wow that California vote is atrocious. Thanks for your time

Is it just a blue filter with dynamic intensity?

We have those too, it's just not what pisses people off. What pisses people off is our critical support of Russia, our support of China, DPRK, etc.

Might be true for lemmygrad, but for hexbear I've seen more people complaining about 'trolls' or 'edgy teens' than just communists. And the unwavering support from both these instances for the 2nd world makes me distrustful as well. Many people here seem more driven by 2nd world nationalism rather than just communism or anti imperialism

making a point of how bloodthirsty and set Americans can be on these things (genocide)

I guess it's a good time as any to ask, do you (and other people here) really mean it when you say things like this or are they understood as hyperboles? "never attribute to malice what can be to incompetence" applies commonly in politics (as evidenced by that post about has Joe Biden dropped out Google trend) and is especially the case of Palestine imo. You could say regardless of if it's hate or ignorance the result doesn't change and I'd agree but it still doesn't feel right to straight up call them bloodthirsty

Maybe to 5 year olds?

I thought its message was "not picking a side isn't morally superior to picking a side even if picking a side doesn't change the outcome, people will die either way and the guy holding the lever is a literal nazi", which in my opinion extends to "so if picking a side has a chance to make it better it is immoral to not try".

I'm not here to convince anyone of that, I was just confused why someone from here would make a meme seemingly mocking the usual hexbear position but it seems this was edited from a liberal meme

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I've been learning to try to not flame as much as I lost quite a bit of control in the past two days

You're doing good, thanks for taking the time to write this and sorry for assuming you were being hostile too. OP posted the original version of this meme in he other thread, which apparently didn't have a text bubble for the above guy. It makes a bit more sense that this didn't originate here.

I wasn't trying to invalidate the meme referencing voting third party, it just seemed very much like a satirical mockery of doing so. I was confused why such a meme would be posted here, and if it wasn't satire why op would make the bottom left guy's speech so on the nose.

This being a criticism of us electoral system works, but even with the added nazi its other message also works for me ("not participating in electoral system wouldn't be morally superior on its own even if the electoral system didn't do anything [and was in the hands of nazis]"). But I think I'm overthinking it and this was supposed to be a low overhead 'look how ridiculous their memes about us are' post.

Expecting you or other communists here to spend all your mental bandwidth trying to be kind to strangers isn't reasonable but I can't but think if it would be better if this was a kinder place and didn't get blocked by seemingly the most of lemmy users.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Calling my question stupid and that I don't deserve an actual answer (justifying the other person quipping at ) isn't rude? Your confrontational stance and underhandedly calling me a fascist isn't rude? How would you rather have me ask if this meme is satire or geniune?

Some part of me refuses to believe that a stranger on the internet (and a leftist at that) told me to cry. WTF is wrong with you

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Because I keep deluding myself every couple months into thinking I can have a normal fucking conversion with someone from this instance if I just walk on egshells. I have not talked down to anyone or attacked anyone, I haven't even tried to argue against views I disagree with. All I was trying to do is learn if this post was genuine or satirizing what is depicted. In actually about to cry about this. Why are you so rude

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

And still, choosing an empty track doesn't do anything neither other than letting the person on the bottom feel better about themselves. If the guy on the top is a play on the liberal 'choose the lesser evil' sentiment, what is the bottom guy about?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (3 children)

It's valuing spiritual cleanliness (intellectual opposition to genocide) as much, if not more than material effects of real world actions. Or in the case of this meme, acting as if choosing an unrelated empty track is morally superior to pulling a lever that controls nothing.

I don't intend to change anyone's minds, I just thought the meme was too on the nose to be genuine

Saw this in hexbear memes yesterday. To me it reads as a satire of the holier than thou attitudes I see around here. But it also had no downvotes and nobody was challenging it, so I wonder if it reads differently to you, and how if so.

I tried asking the OP but I was told not to expect discussion in the memes community

Every time she says or does something I get the feeling she lived her entire life in a Truman show populated by robots until aunt may pulled her out of it

It also connects to discord, supposed to be blocked since more than a week. No other device or browser I have connects to YouTube, they all get ERR_SOCKET_NOT_CONNECTED, and only a fresh Vivaldi profile on the same pc also connects to Discord, everything else get ERR_CONNECTION_RESET.

I've tried disabling all extensions, it still connects. Checked its IP address and DNS server and they're the same as other devices/browsers. Any idea what could be going on?

Marvel wikia retcons its first appearance as xmen#101, but phoenix force isn't in this issue, phoenix is. At some point between its publication and now the story must've changed to involve a cosmic god, but I wonder if before then phoenix's origin was intended to be an extreme version of fantastic 4's origin beyond just an homage.

I just started reading xmen#125 and once again in a flashback this is how the event is described:

Her body was consumed by the intense radiation. But her mind refused to die. Driven by her love for Scott Summers, she achieved her full potential as a psi --becoming, briefly, an entity of pure thought-- before finally reforming as Phoenix.

So when does phenix force actually bocme a thing? Were there any other out of universe (as I'll reach the in universe ones eventually) explanations of the phoenix's power before then? Shouldn't the wiki at least mention if a part of an article is a retcon?

Edit: I think it appears first in xmen 153, where Kitty pryde tells colossus's sister a bedtime story loosely based on the xmen. In the story Jean's soul manages to defeat Phoenix.

I'm trying to play dark souls 2 with the graphics overhaul mod in hdr. I'm passing 1440p to gamescope with the -W, -H, -w, -h options and limiting framerate to 60 with -r and -o.

The game just refuses to display at anything other than 720p. I can change the in-game resolution setting to 1440p but the resolution just doesn't change. I tried setting a lower resolution (480p iirc) as well, but it still looked the same. Also tried enabling fullscreen but that setting doesn't save nor does it do anything.

I'm inferring that it's 720p because the in-game cursor moves half the distance of the actual cursor with gamescope set to 1440p, but they're in sync if I set it to 720p. To the eye it just looks blurry. The mod menu opens at the size it opens without gamescope but is also similarly blurred. Couldn't interact with it to confirm the resolution due to the aforementioned mouse issue

Outside of gamescope fullscreen works fine and the resolution setting works too iirc (but they reset after reopening the game). Kde plasma. Tried disabling secondary screen, setting scaling to 100 and limiting desktop fps to 60, didn't help

Could this be some kind of steam deck detection? Any ideas?

I keep seeing this video and every time I'm uncertain. I'm pretty sure that's not how normal strawberry plants look, and the fact that all of the berries are ripe at the same time is suspicious. On the other hand they look naturally connected to the plant and not stabbed into branches..
