Watch as the next Democrat administration ignores pardoning any of these political prisoners because of some rule of law bullshit and attacks on the left are further normalized institutionally

Municipal politics in Canada in general are pretty wack because they aren't constitutionally defined as a level of government. Most cities don't even really have councillors with a real platform, they just kinda vote on what the vibes of the councillor are outside of the big three of Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.

Canada is very imperialist yeah for sure, but I think it's captured by finance/extractive capital in a different way than the United States. Canada relies on the idea of a liberal rules based international order in order to support its mining companies in other countries and can't support these with military strength alone. Canada has broken with US foreign policy in cases like this before when it benefits the financial interests of the Canadian elite ie. Cuba. Canada doesn't stand to gain much from a collapse of the international order governed through the UN and in fact stands to lose a lot if Israel/the US continues to threaten it. This is why much of the propaganda pushed in Canada is in support of these ideas of "Canadian Peacekeepers" or how Canada only joined the Korean War and Afghanistan, but not Vietnam and Iraq because they were not "legal".

So less of an anti-imperialist shift in Canada and more of a push back from finance capital in more of a realpolitik sense.

Interesting: Canadian media reporting on the attacks in Lebanon take a different tone than what we're used to. No passive voice, mainly focusing on innocent civilians being injured, and discusses how the pager attacks were largely useless against targetting Hezbollah and mainly hurt civilians

With Aggressive New Attacks on Lebanon, Israel Signals It Will Not be Bound by Donald Trump's Ceasefire

Could this be a shift from western support of Israel to the government's recognizing that Israel is beginning to threaten the stability of the western system?

How would they even get ground troops into Iran? Definitely not from the North, they would have to transit through Russia/China.

To the West they could go from Saudi Arabia through Iraq, but would Iraq allow that movement? Similarly with the Eastern side through Pakistan, I don't know if Pakistan's government wants to be directly involved.

I guess the only other option is Turkey -> Azerbaijan into Northwestern Iran. I guess they could use the new Trump Peace Corridor or whatever they called it. Any direction they choose would be incredibly difficult terrain though

Trump ends temporary protected status for Somali people living in the US. Claiming conditions in Somalia have improved to the point that they no longer qualify for the status. 3000+ people with this status or applying for this status will be forced to leave the US by March 17th.

I genuinely don't think this was stopping ICE from assaulting these people before so this is just Trump signalling cruelty to his base.

I wonder if this current focus on Somali people in the US from the right is in any way connected to the increased focus on Somalia and Somaliland we're seeing in the Middle East or if it is just a coincidence.

Currently trying to refund the new Indiana Jones game because it's unplayable without raytracing cri. My card isn't even old, it's just 8GB of VRAM is the absolute minimum apparently so my mobile 3060 is now useless. I miss when I used to be able to play new games in 2014 on my shitty AMD card at 20fps, yeah it didn't look great but developers still included a very low graphics option for people like me. Now you need to be upgrading every 2 years to keep up.

This album came up in a discussion of worst album covers of all time, and rightfully so. I don't want to name the band because they're not lying, Wikipedia is seriously fighting to keep this album cover uncensored and accessible.

This isn't some edgy underground band either it's a very popular band from the 70s/80s. It's insane how normalized this pedophilic behaviour was and is in the music scene.

I know this might count as low hanging fruit because it's some random on a website, but I'm trying to dunk more on the actual concept here which I am obviously not linking to.

Setting up following this guide: https://mullvad.net/en/help/shadowsocks-android

And I have everything in OpenVPN and Shadowsocks set up like they say, but when I try to connect to the Shadowsocks server I get the error "Failed to detect internet connection: connection closed". The upload/download shows I can upload at ~30 kbps but no download.

I'm on MIUI 14 which may be the problem because I know it has some issues with...everything really... But I turned off power saver so it should be allowed to run in the background

And not in a good way.

The movie is written by Nick Pinkerton, who I've never heard of before but is apparently associated with the Red Scare Pod in some way. The movie is a mumblecore surrealist comedy loosely based on Alice in Wonderland, where the main character travels through different parts of the United States and meets different characters. It's got some funny parts and it held together well enough in the beginning but it starts to drag by the second vignette and really starts to broadcast where it leans politically.

The main character essentially acts listlessly throughout the entire movie and calls things and people ableist slurs. While other characters are supposed to...I guess represent different political positions in the US? I don't really know what the point was meant to be, but the vibe is "caring about things is dumb". There's four main vignettes which boil down to the following:

    spoiler

    1. A group of anarchists that never actually profess any political beliefs besides not working and eating food from the garbage. The main anarchist character is immediately shown to b a sex pest and the group then goes out to a field to fight Nazis that aren't there. (This is the only representation of the political left in the movie)

    2. An academic Nazi who takes in our main character and lets her live in his house. He is given ample time to espouse his ideas and does not attempt to sleep with the main character which is shown to be a big deal. She lives with him as a tradwife for some time, and is like happy with it I think? But eventually runs away

    3. Two New York film makers who are making a period piece. Sorry I really don't know what this one was trying to say it just felt random, but the film shoot ends when Nazis shoot everyone.

    4. An Arabic guy who saves the main character from the shooting, but oh no! It turns out he's locking her away to be his wife and also he lives in a terrorist training camp.

And then finally the writer of the movie shows up as a Catholic monk to save the main character and talk about miracles for some reason.

Maybe I don't get it because I don't really vibe with this kind of art. But genuinely this movie was pretty boring and it feels gross when you know the politics behind it. I will give them credit though, I was anticipating a TERFy joke the entire movie and I didn't catch one.

Went to see Challengers last night (good movie btw) and before the movie they played the most unhinged ad I've ever seen. It was AI generated children talking about being victims of the holocaust. It straight up looked like one of those ai tiktok slop stories that bot farms make. Something about a giant image of a child talking about gas chambers while their eyes shifted unnaturally and gazed into nothingness really made me uncomfortable.

Apparently it was to encourage Holocaust education?? Just absolutely terrible execution

I haven't been able to find the ad online yet but if anyone does feel free to share with the class

Thank god this trial didn't end up finding him guilty. For context, he ran over some plain clothes police officer after plainclothes police rushed Zameer's car while failing to identify themselves as police. Zameer was charged with first degree murder for something that was pretty obviously an accident caused by police incompetence. The trial was also full of the-pigs lying about what happened and being called out.

If you're into the idea of a John Wick esque action movie where Dev Patel fights the BJP and RSS then I really recommend this.

It doesn't outright name the BJP but it's pretty obvious. It's also got some good commentary on land seizures, along with the treatment of indigenous and Muslim communities in India. Also some good representation of the Hijra community which I haven't seen mentioned in much Western media

Absolutely insane ruling but unsurprising that the government would fuck over renters in yet another way. They say it's the tenants responsibility to know if their landlord resides in another country and to plan for that. This is just going to incentivize foreign landlords to not pay taxes and pushing all the responsibilities onto the tenant.

Real back to colonial absentee landowners vibes
