Second person to mention this. I've removed Spotify from the list and instead mentioned them as a platform to potentially avoid.

THE PRINCESS THEATRE!

AH, I used to pass by that one all the time when I lived up in Edmonton! Would pass by it after work on my way to Remedy Cafe on the end of the block there. That thing is in dire need of occupancy, I've only ever seen it open when the Deadmonton House used it as a venue for Halloween, other than that it's always been dead in my time frequenting downtown.

Would be incredible if people got that thing up and running again, definitely would help with the nightlife of that part of Jasper Ave.

EDIT: Oop, was thinking of the Paramount, not the Princess, my bad. Regardless would be great seeing the additional activity on both Jasper and Whyte.

Oh! Was fully under the impression they were based out of America. I'll make edits and add it to the list then.

I get the point of the article, and I'm not trying to ignore the very valid points made in it.

Just... Dollar Tree? That's your go-to image? Like am I supposed to be upset that cheaply-made plastic goods are less available? Surely they could have chosen a better image for the article.

Fully aware this is me being nitpicky.

I mean, PieFed exists as alternative software that has a very similar feel to the one Lemmy has.

Could also go for making the instance one based on Mbin, though the layout change might be a bit of an adjustment for people.

Honestly for all the flaws it has that the developers are still working on, I would much rather give my time and money into supporting PieFed.

At least the devs there are expressly against the kind of rhetoric Nutomic and Dessalines regularly involve themselves in.

Share this in the Wild West Canada community.

Bro who mods that space really needs to read this... assuming he'll even listen.

Not the first time, when I first advertised the old community on feddit.online, I got downvoted to hell and back because of how many people thought the same.

But no it's just a rat lol

I'm just saying, millions of voters stayed home during the U.S. election, and we ended up with someone turning that country into a fascist hellhole as a result of that.

Don't want to vote? If you fail to vote even with a "void" or "none of the above" option to meet you halfway with your lack of desire to follow the issues, then at that point that's on you and you deserve to be treated as what you are - someone who allows the country to slip further into the hands of wannabe dictators.

You have the right to choose no candidate for the election much like you have the right not to have an abortion. Not showing up is a different story.

Always hated the point people make that "well what if I don't want to vote because I hate everyone"?

Solution: Add a box saying none of these candidates. Boom, you get filtered from the lazy ones who let everyone take care of their business for them. It's literally that simple.

People have died in wars for this right. You don't get to decide not to exercise it, it is your civic duty, and your duty to respect the people who died for that right to be a reality.

Don Carlito, also known as "B-Kool" is a rapper born and raised in Toronto! This track is one recorded in 1999 that only saw release in 2020! Incredibly solid track.

Huh, no Android version? I got the information about the game being cross-platform from the game's page on the developer's website. It was implied it was available on mobile since they had a picture of someone playing it on mobile.

In any case, it at least still seems to be available on Switch, Playstation, and Xbox quickly checking the links here: https://www.odysseyinteractive.gg/omegastrikers

Omega Strikers is a cross-platform game one can play for free with friends, or others around the world! A top-down sports game, two teams of three try to send a puck into the other team's net with cool cutscenes, special abilities, and fast-paced action adding to the game's excitement!

Hey all, I have three quick announcements to make here regarding the community:

First off, I've set a post format to follow in the community sidebar. This will help in the future for music shared going forwards, helping future users of the community to be able to perform a search for their preferred genre, search for specific release years, or both. This only applies to song posts and not album posts. I've been trying to sort out how to make those work out both in regards to post formatting, as well as how to compile them like is being done with the playlist.

Second off, I've recently decided to ban two users for downvoting posts and will likely be doing so going forward. Reason for doing so is that, as a music community, people are making themselves vulnerable by sharing the music they enjoy. New users receiving downvotes for sharing music they enjoy can give off the message that their tastes aren't welcome here, and I really want to prevent that from happening as this community should foster music of all genres. Moving forward, I'm likely going to be banning people whose only interactions with the community involve consistent downvotes and/or have a history of "blanket downvoting" in other communities based on global moderation history. However, before making this official, I would like to hear the thoughts of others in the community.

Last off, in regards to the ListenBrainz playlist, I've been noticing more and more as time goes on how many musicians and releases need to be added to the MusicBrainz database before having their music added to the playlist. I was thinking of creating a weekly event where we add releases and/or musicians to MusicBrainz, sharing what all we've added and done. Would love to also hear feedback on this and what y'all think.

Cheers!

Sephra's Paradox brings a Canadian name to the Hi-Tech scene with this 240 BPM track! Hailing from British Columbia, Sephra's Paradox is sure to send your ears for a ride if you're a fan of high bpm music.

It's hard to move away from Steam and find replacements for it that aren't based in America. Epic Games Store? American. ZOOM Platform? American. Itch? Unfortunately American.

However, there are two decent alternatives that aren't based in America, those being GOG.com, which is based in Poland, and FireFlower Games, a much smaller vendor based in Sweden.

While both stores are without a doubt magnitudes smaller than Steam, both can be contributed to with your help. With an account on GOG, one can vote for games to be added to GOG using GOG Dreamlist. While of course voting for games to be added to GOG via GOG Dreamlist doesn't guarantee their addition to the platform, it definitely helps developers take notice that there is a demand for their game on the platform should they see their game receive a larger amount of votes.

While FireFlower Games, being much smaller and catered to indie games, doesn't have an equivalent feature, one can reach out to game developers to have their games added to both platforms. Both FireFlower Games and GOG embrace the nature of DRM-free games, meaning that unlike Steam, games are 100% owned by the purchaser without the need of a third party.

I've been thinking about making a list of Canadian games not yet available on GOG, and creating a Megathread of games that can be voted for on GOG Dreamlist. Please let me know if y'all enjoy the idea, and depending on community feedback I'll either go ahead in building a list, or step back from the idea entirely.

The small island province in the Atlantic gets some recognition in this post with Charlottetown band Lefunk's single "Reflection"!

The instrumentals and smooth vocals of this track are sure to get anybody dancing!

I have a community, and because it's generally not really one where controversy comes up, as a mod and creator of the community I do like to check where downvotes on posts are coming from.

I came across this one user where, according to modlogs, they seem to have had a general habit of basically downvoting everything in sight on their feed and unfortunately an otherwise perfectly upvoted post got caught up in the crossfire.

While I don't think banning them from the community will remove that downvote, I also don't want someone like this to be able to interact with the community at all, since it manipulates good-faith post voting, and I'd like to prevent unfair downvotes like this one from appearing in the future.

Issue is with the person is that's all they've done. Vote on the post. No comments in the community or anything, so I can't find any dialogue option to just ban them outright. How would I give this guy the boot?

Aaron MacDonald is a lovely musician from the beautiful island of Cape Breton! His new song "What's The Point" was released late last month, and comes with this incredibly fun music video!

I came across Aaron from Music Cape Breton, one of the many new resources recently added to the Music Resources Megathread. Please feel free to check out both the site and the rest of Aaron's music library!

Apparently Pierre's campaign has been using Echo Beach without proper consent of Martha and the Muffins. Add this to the Trump similarities list.
