This was always the real trick. If you have a laptop you can probably tilt your screen to make it change between the two. What angle you use your screen at affects your perception.

The 'features for growing healthy communities' feels a bit opinionated in a way that makes me feel kinda gross overall in some places. I get what they're going for, and I want to be on their side... Maybe it's just the wording that gives me pause.

Not your standard celebrity, but John McAfee was a hell of a trip.

Id personally be more scared of the chimp. The gorilla is mostly a peaceful animal.

I wish, but that's the opposite of the goal of the democratic party. They don't see themselves as the opposition to the Republican party. Only priorities are maintaining the status quo and getting funding. That does tend to be better for us than the alternative, but any downstream benefits are mostly a happy accident.

This is a fun thought experiment and I’m kind of surprised Discovery didn’t do something like this with holodeck tech in the “future” since the writers weren’t afraid to do other tech-taken-to-natural-conclusion like tiny phaser transporters (or whatever those were).

They kinda did, they just didn't go into detail. There were ships that were made entirely of holodeck at the new federation headquarters in discovery season 3ish, we just never got beyond being mentioned briefly and people going 'Oh, thats cool'.

Maxwell's powers are limited by what he can describe with written language and the speed at which Maxwell can do so. Q's powers are effectively similar but seemingly without either limitation.

Not sure if this is optimistic or not, I feel like it's going to suck for awhile until we just don't trust anything digital ever again. There will just be an assumption that anything digital is not real. We'll go back to "If it's on the internet, it must be true" being a joke. Also not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

We tend to underestimate how large reddit is and also tend to overestimate how much the quality of the communities we participate in affect the average reddit user.

It grew pretty heavily in 2024, there are other places that collect stats too, but in most ways that you can easily measure, it's moving in that direction. 2023 did have a small blip in comments posted per year, but it got back on track fairly quick.

Helipads are pretty common as mentioned, but I've seen a few out there with storage for small planes. Those are usually some form of seaplane that just stores in/on the yacht after landing in the water, but technically...
