The We may only be fucked short term but we're doomed long term if we stay in charge of ourselves instead of building something more benevolent than ourselves to protect ourselves from our own baked in inner darkness: greed, arrogance, apathy, selfishness, narcissism, schadenfreude, gluttony, etc.

Human beings are the worst at far off threats and warnings. Climate change will have to kill a significant, at minimum double digit percentage of the species before we even begin to consider changing our lifestyles. Even then, we don't retain lessons. It only took a single human lifespan for the Israelis to go from being the most sympathetic of victims to the unrepentant victimizers, for repentant Germany's far right to re-emerge, and even for the former saviors like the US and UK to literally court fascism. As a species, we can barely learn and we absolutely cannot generationally retain hard lessons. That used to be fine, until science provided us with tools that make our significant shortcomings destructive on a truly global scale.

We're aggressive monkeys with nuclear/biological/chemical weapons, and evolution is far too slow to compensate for that recipe for disaster.

The US, not proud of it at all though, and would leave if I had an in pretty much anywhere in Europe or Canada.

That's the thing though, the Republicans already broke that machine by refusing to consider Obama's appointment, with no repurcussians of any kind.

At this point, obeying rules and norms and not doing what you can get away with in federal government to achieve your goals just makes you a sucker.

Yeah, we can't just sit back and do nothing in the face of all the mass shootings, or climate change, or K-12 collapse, or reproductive rights being dismantled either.

And yet...

Very pretty words though. He became President today!

I will speak of the dead how they were, not how I wish they were.

It devalues people that lived empathetic, caring lives to play pretend some greedy/malicious/antisocial pos was a "great guy."

Don't speak ill of the dead? It's nonsensical. There is no God, but judgment still should come for a person, by the people whose lives they touched for better or worse, and it helps no one to pretend everyone who died was awesome.

Maybe if the world called a notorious POS a notorious POS when they died and tossed their corpse into a dumpster, it would, I don't know, show the living that how they live will decide how and if they're remembered.

My bet is that most of them are waiting to see how Meta's platform will actually turn out.

Man, the peasants just refuse to learn, don't we? Maybe the wealth class won't fuck everything up and ruin a good thing in the name of short term profit this time! 😑

At least Lucy had to lie to and reassure Charlie Brown to get him to try to kick the football again. It's like people have already forgotten thr reason most of us are here is to escape a greedy asshole breaking our community in his quest to sell us all out to Wall Street.

Whenever the oligarch class discovers a new crumb the peasants made for themselves, they immediately want that, too. It's never enough.

We can't even escape the insatiable greed of our capitalist dystopia on a decentralized lifeboat 😔

I'm glad another rich tax cheat got caught, even if it probably happened for the wrong reasons.

I'm no fan of Biden, but this truly is an unfair attack. He isn't and hasn't been involved in his father's political life. Of course right-wing morons will latch onto it and twist it because of their confirmation bias that our boring ass neoliberal President is involved in the vast conspiracies they made up.

It's not some vast conspiracy, American rich corporate fancy lad committed tax fraud like most other American rich corporate fancy lads and lasses. The only odd detail here is that he might face some accountability for it, which I grant is fucking Bizaare in the United States. It's like seeing an American cop help a homeless minority, basically an octuple rainbow.

If you want lazy action, I highly recommend a largely ignored gem. Orcs must die 3.

It's nice looking, satisfying as hell, and you can pay as much or as little attention to it as you want.

If I'm feeling shooty, borderlands 3 or halo infinite on PC (my nostalgia for the franchises are too strong). I used to like GTA5 way back when, until it became purely a pay to win grind.

If I'm feeling like a story, I keep going back to skyrim after all these years. Also Last of Us, Spider-man, and the Jedi Outcast series.

If I'm feeling like some brain dead fun, I HIGHLY recommend a lesser appreciated gem: Orcs Must Die 3

If im feeling like spicy gaming, I have a highly modified version of skyrim for that too :)

Just as how Netlix tweeted "love is sharing a password" a couple years ago before fucking their subscribers with no lube, any confidence in reddit is gone. They professed different values than they demonstrate now.

They're making insignificant carve outs FOR NOW to mitigate bad press and negative attention. Those will also go away in the name profit if Reddit survives this betrayal, maybe in a few months, maybe in a couple years, but the ground under which a sense of community formed is shattered irrevocably.

Why make content to profit a platform that openly disrespects and lies to its users, many many of whom provided free labor on the basis of that now erased sense of trust and respect?

And it will only get worse after the IPO, when activist investors insist on monetizing their shitty first party platforms even more.
