This was really interesting as someone not in the military, and definitely valuable and detailed info for people who need it. The stuff about going AWOL as a last resort was especially eye opening! I'm sure I'm not the only one who assumed going AWOL was a one-way trip to military prison.

Rest In Power, Michael Brooks.
As someone who managed to get themselves kicked out of the military, I’m so so so glad they’re getting this info out there and thank you for posting this. When I was going through that, I was threatened with an OTH (other than honorable) discharge which would supposedly ruin my life. I ended up just fine thanks to resources like the GI Rights Hotline and a particularly helpful JAG lawyer. Even if I did get that, I now know it doesn’t matter much anyways and it’s certainly not the huge deal command makes it out to be. There might be a lot of people wanting to leave who just need to know it’s going to be ok, and helping them do so is important praxis imo. Every soldier kicked out is one less cog in the war machine, a potential life (or multiple lives?) saved, and they might even end up being a new comradewith the right help.
