News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

MODERATORS

I was just browsing a thread on c/nfl looking for new mods. There were multiple 12+ year Redditors there offering to help.

Got me wondering. There are 14,000 of us in this community. How many of us are ten year plus users who have just had enough?

Edit: I didn't expect this post to be as poignant as it became. There are so many of you... I can't reply to everyone. I'm an 11 year user and have modded something like 150 subs over the years. I'm really sad too, but I'm finding that lemmy has most of the content I'm looking for, just needs more comments.

The API was a big blow, but removing awards on past posts and deleting coin balances is really dumb.

Can't be bothered the check but close to 10 years, fuck that site!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Not sure how long I was there, but well over ten years. Deleted my account and am done.

11 years here. Made the jump shortly after the protests died down and Huffman made it clear that he didn't care who the changes impacted.

15 years here

My 10 year anniversary was July 12.

I've been on Reddit for 10+, but I haven't actually left yet, this isn't quite a full replacement for me.

10 years, haven't used it at all since Sync stopped working. I'm enjoying Lemmy, not very many niche communities but I'm sure that will catch up

+1 here.

I used the official Reddit app for some time before switching between Apollo and Joey (depending on whether I had an iPhone at the time or an Android).

I am one. I had six Reddit accounts, a couple were throwaways. I started at Slashdot then Digg then Reddit. I’ve since deleted all my most popular posts (that caused PMs on the regular) then deleted the accounts afterwards.

I still view content on there but with no account using AdGuard and Sink It (removes Reddits BS “download app” prompts). I also browse incognito to not leave behind tracking cookies.

I’ve made sure I’m worthless traffic to them for the content that Lemmy doesn’t have.

11 years+ here. Left almost a month ago.

Not quite 10 years, only 8, but I left the moment rif was shut down. Fuck spez

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I got all my accounts banned last year and I've been watching the decline ever since.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I left it for content outside of two are communities that are only at reddit: r/Summonerschool and r/CompetitiveTFT. (they are also at discord, but I dont like "chat" style)

It would have been 13 years this year, but the API changes killed Boost and after also killing Reddit Gifts for failing to turn a profit when it started as a community thing, plus the new redesign to make it look more like the Facebook feed, plus having to rely on automoderator codes instead of having properly integrated mod tools, plus the fact that they keep rolling out Place again instead of coming up with more original ideas like The Button, plus allowing the_donald and creepshots to exist for so long...

...yeah.

I think I was on the site for just about ten years. Haven't touched it since june.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Just checked: oldest account i still have is 16 years old.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

10-ish years here. I haven't used it on my phone since the cut, but I sadly can't really quit it completely, since a lot of communities haven't migrated and I have to use them for my hobbies. Most of their discords are sadly very dead or full with memes and no real discussion. When (or if sadly) they all convert, I can quit Reddit completely. Until then, I try to use it as little as possible.

I was a long term user until and left because of the third party apps removal.

I started my first account in 2012 because my ex husband was into it. I ask don't understand "why does the narwhal bacon" but I slowly figured out reddit and recommended it to all of my friends. Sad to see it go; but I'm glad... except for a few small communities (Neopets, Microgrowery, AIDKE, shrimptanks, succshaming, etc.) it was turning into a cesspool of ads and manipulated visibility.

About a decade or so on Reddit. Most of it through Relay when I was an android user or Apollo for the last few years.

Deleted my account. Don’t really think about Reddit anymore unless it comes up on a news site or here.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Yep. Turns out I don’t miss it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I changed accounts often but I was using the site from around 2010/11

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

about 12 years I think for me

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago
