Alternative text on the sad one:

It's in a roll under system.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Was gonna say...20 in most d100 systems is a fantastic roll

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

The 19 (d100) is equivalent to a 19 (d20, DnD). The 20, to a 19 too (10% for the best roll) 😁

[–] [email protected] 25 points 11 months ago (1 children)

In D100 systems that's usually good. You typically want to roll under a certain number to pass.

For example, if i have a 70% chance of sucess, i want to roll a 70 or under on a D100.

It's actually a much better way to visualize your odds than with a D20.

It's on a d100, and also item 20 on the table you're rolling on is really terrible.

Alternative PF2 Text:

Panel 1 - You roll a nat 20!

Panel 2 - it's only a success

P1: Nat 20!

P2: Initiative roll and you have a negative modifier

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

Or even worse, it could be a failure if the DC is 31+ with no modifier

laughs in terrasque

[–] [email protected] 23 points 11 months ago (1 children)

i play a roll under system, i see this as an absolute win

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

20 or under to succeed

With a plus 1 modifier.

Yes, but it's not what you're picturing probably. They count up by 10 from 00-90 and are usually rolled with a d10 so that you can get all the numbers between 1-100.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Just to clarify, that's usually 2 d10s. One with the decimals (10,20...90) like you said, and another with the units. (1,2...9).

Also, zeroes in both dice are considered 100.

On another note, there are actually single dice that go from 1 to 100, but they're more of a novelty thing and don't roll super well.

It depends whether you want 00-99 or 1-100. Eclipse Phase, for example, uses 00-99 so that criticals (which are on doubles) are evenly distributed. It compensates by making success only on a roll strictly less than, not less-than-or-equal-to, your target.

So the "D100" has 00-90 and goes up by tens and works in tandem with a D10 to fill in the single digits? That makes a lot of sense but I still want a disco ball sized die with 100 sides

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's either 2 D10s (one for each digit) or a single D100 but D10s are so common that two dice are usually the way to roll it. So yes there are D100 out there.

Yes. Different colors or different digits (1, 2, 3, ... and 10, 20, 30, ...).

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Yes 00 = 100%, 01 = 1%, percentage and no 0%, you don't roll same colours so you can call which die is which digit, or could roll one twice to make a percentage.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

The 00-90 is what's called a percentile die. A d10 and a percentile die are commonly rolled together to generate numbers between 0 and 99 (where 00 is usually read as 100).

But the true d100 disco balls exist.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

It's usually two d10s, but they do make 100-sided dice. They're not symmetric like the other dice though. The closest you can get to that is d120.

Could make a third happy panel where you’re level 20 and rolling for divine intervention

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Assuming 5e, I think level 20 clerics can just automatically get Divine Intervention once a week. I might be misremembering hahaha

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Oh fair enough, I didn’t actually know what happens at level 20 for clerics.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Precisely my thoughts.

Now I'm covered in grease!
