On this day in 1970, a spontaneous uprising against U.S. military occupation broke out in Koza, Okinawa, Japan after an American drunk driver struck a local pedestrian. Approximately 60 Americans and 27 Okinawans were injured, and dozens of cars with American license plates were torched.

Following Japan's defeat in World War II, the country was occupied by Allied forces and governed under martial law. While most of Japan regained its independence in April 1952, the Okinawa Prefecture was to remain under U.S. military occupation for another twenty years.

Prior to the events of December 20th, three Americans had been acquitted via court martial after striking and killing an Okinawa civilian. This incident fueled the growing discontent of Okinawans with the standard status of forces that exempted U.S. servicemen from Okinawan justice.

On December 20th, 1970, a drunk U.S. serviceman struck an Okinawan pedestrian in the city of Koza. A crowd quickly surrounded the car and the policemen who had arrived, demanding that this incident not also be swept under the rug.

When American MPs arrived and attempted to pull the driver away, the protest turned violent, with thousands gathering to try to prevent the driver from leaving. By the end of the night, dozens of cars with American license plates had been torched and approximately 60 Americans and 27 Okinawans had been injured.

Last year was the first Xmas I’ve ever spent with a “loved one.” A friend booked a motel room for me that week because of this fucking blizzard. The person I’m in love with who won’t talk to me, I’ll call them Fortress, came over to drop off my mail, and then to my surprise they asked if they could take a shower (they are technically homeless like me, but they have an income and shit). I was so fucking happy because it felt like I mattered for once.

I snuck them and their cat in on Xmas Eve. I found out that evening that they speak French. And I learned that electro swing is a thing that exists. We ordered DoorDash from 7-Eleven and they called and complained he cause they didn’t cook our pizza.

This year, I’m going to probably be forced into hanging out with my kind of annoying friend.

I ruined everything.

Best Iron Maiden Song? I gotta go with Aces High, that pre-chorus with the echoed background vocals and that sick opening/main riff. The chorus is admittedly average.

System of a Down makes a new album but it's just the parts where they palm mute quietly and the singers 90s mumble harmony

Cash-My-Check's tomb was actually a pretty nice visit. I'm continuously impressed by how much better managed Taiwan is compared to Guatemala. Our Presidents tomb where Arbenz and other leftists are laid to rest has been destroyed by mudslides and kept in poor condition for years. It's such a change to see one that's well guarded and kept in good condition by comparison.

I was doing pretty well with Persians in AoE2, just super good boom and late game. Scout rush into knights is a natural fit and works pretty well without being complicated. You can also get crossbows for just wood with a unique tech, which means heavy cav and mediocre, but cheap crossbows, covering against most troop compositions. If the game goes long enough you get to use savars, which are their unique heavy cav upgrade and are good and look cool. The game usually doesn't go that long though.

But Persians have a high pick and win rate, so I'm learning Tatars now. They're toward the bottom of win rates, but honestly the spread is like, mid 40s to mid 50s, not a huge deal. It's probably gonna be more losses, but if I dip I should get more wins. think-about-it

I really love horse archers, aesthetically, conceptually, so I'm excited to get comfortable with a civ that has good ones with a nice power spike from free thumb ring. Might mean I have to learn how to fast castle, but that's doable. Also the central Asia buildings look pretty cool, which is a bonus.

Still around 900 elo. I wonder if I can touch 1000 by the new year?
