In the wake of Google's 12% drop ($400b), I was reading about bubbles on Motley Fool and found the portfolio advice shown in this screenshot. The article includes dynamic stock tickers embedded in the text. The article recommends protecting yourself from bubbles by holding such stocks as AMZN (-4.25%) and GOOG (-12.29%). Thanks, Motley Fool!

Motley Fool is such a streaming pile. "Buy these hidden gem tech stocks by purchasing a subscription to our market intelligence report!" Yeah, okay. Spoiler alert: it's more stabbing in the dark, vaguely educated guesses, and day late/dollar short. MF actually has some interesting journalism analysis, and then they go and shit in their own mouths with their level 1 market analysis subscriptions disguised as inside information.

‘Easy come easy go’? Easy to say if you’re investing extra cash, but if your entire retirement is tied up in a 401k, where you only have options like ‘25 year whatever and such’ is a bit disheartening….

Good thing there is any kind of safety net!

    …oh….say what….? Nothing at all? Healthcare is what….? Hmmm…. Well, guess I’ll die. 🤷‍♀️

Invest in US senators. Heard there's a pretty good ROI on those.

I'm not so sure, I think they only really payout to the highest bidder. And you can be outbid at any time before the payout. At least with listed stocks you get some info in audited financial statements.
If it's your first time buying Senator, please make sure to request their audited accounts before you invest.

Even Stringer Bell got repeatedly fleeced by Clay Davis.

I'm not trying to defend these guys in particular, but "protecting yourself" can mean losing only 13% when everything else loses 60%. Unfortunately.

Every time I think “I wish I could just invest into thing X” where thing X is something I believe in and not harmful it’s pretty obvious that if it was open to investment it wouldn’t be thing X anymore.

There wouldn’t be Irish-domiciled USD accumulating funds for housing cooperative bonds in medium sized cities would there? Please?

Even if I think I was doing the least unethical thing by essentially manually doing a retirement account and buying super broad funds I feel icky about it. Literally doing capitalism.
