Has nobody told them that nobody gives a shit what U.S.A. Christians are up to?

lmao that's the pope, dingus, he speaks for your god. you dont get to be mad if you want to remain a catholic
I don't get why these people don't just become protestants or whatever. Like is their entire access to catholicism seriously just the aesthetic vibes? Thinking the pope wrong about shit is a solved problem ffs.
Inertia mainly
You live your whole life as a "Catholic", doing whatever, being a real sack of crap, then your leader reminds you that you actually have a moral obligation and it all slams into a wall of cognitive dissonance
You have to understand, one of the main motivation/enforcement mechanisms of Catholicism is the guilt/shame about what dead women relatives would think of their actions and decisions. The idea that grandma Valentina would be so distraught over them leaving the church keeps them in line.
It's funny cause I was pulled aside at my grandmother's funeral by a group of my blood relations and told practically the same exact words. My blood relations, for the record, were Italian Roman Catholics. People wonder why I hate Catholicism. It's really not hard to see why, especially being LGBTQIA+.
"thou shalt not kill"
"fucking commie
"
Even the implication that your devotion could be conditional or revoked seems, to me, to undermine any actual benefit of the spirituality. Jesus, you have my heart and I have seen the way... it happens to be my way and the way I would have done it. Mercy only for the #worthy
One would assume that the social benefits are underwritten by the unwaivering faith, lest it water down into aesthetics and simply being a proxy for prejudice.
Will "probably" stay? Are you about it or not?
I'm a proud lifelong Catholic, willing to make countless marginalized people miserable to adhere to the two or three teachings in the Bible I like!
Thou shall not kill?

Hasn't the Catholic Church been officially against the death penalty for at least decades though?
They're gonna be soooo pissed when they find out the Catholic stance on evolution. These people are Protestants who decided Catholicism had the most trad aethethic and are recreating Protestantism from first principle but updated to modern times so it's for the dumbest fucking reasons ever.
He's the fucking Pope, the rules are what he says goes. Otherwise you arent catholic and it doesnt matter whar he says. Those are the rules.
It is like their "Christianity" is just about worshipping authority and giving themselves permission to do whatever they want.
it do be like that sometimes
I see two possibilities here:
-This believes Catholicism is true, in which case "I will probably stay a catholic" is a very flippant attitude to have to his immortal soul.
-This guy doesn't believe Catholicism is true, in which case "I've been a Catholic all my life" is a bit weird since he knows he doesn't actually believe.
This guy doesn't believe Catholicism is true, in which case "I've been a Catholic all my life" is a bit weird since he knows he doesn't actually believe.
not that weird, I would say the majority of catholics I have met in my life don't really believe it. It's definitely one of the most "cultural" religions where it's kind of openly accepted that most catholics think it's not literally true. Large part of why it's shrinking and they can't get anyone to show up to mass
I've said it before and i'll say it again
I should be Pope
I'd strip down the gold and jewels, give the money to the poor and let everyone finger through the Vatican archives (as long as they didn't have buffalo sauce fingers)
As an added bonus, i'd start having people hit with halberds too
i would forcefemme the entire swiss guard and excommunicate every hwite amerikkkan catholic
I riffed up pretty much a full treatment for a movie that needed to come out in the early 2000s called Pope Bradley starring Malcolm in the Middle as a kid pope
If I were Pope, i'd let you use the Papal Time Machine to go back in time to make that movie
The stuck up villain cardinal would be played by Rip Torn. He throws a big party at the Vatican when his parents are out of town, he even uses his Papal influence to get Sum 41 to play. Just as he's about to kiss Love Interest, Rip Torn bursts in with the Swiss Guard, the record scratches as the music stops despite it being a live band and he tells Malcolm in the Middle that the Pope has to be celibate. Some kind of crisis occurs thar he solves with a speech about how while it is fun to goof off as pope, sometimes you need to step up and do what's right. Then he quits his pope job to be with Love Interest. There is a silly B plot where his dad played by Eugene Levvy gets a job as a Swiss Guard
This is some real Admiral Baby type shit
and I love it!
'Don't you try that infallible line on me, young man!'
'Come out and explain to all these people waiting for your sermon why you're grounded! Tell em they'll have to come back next Easter!'
'That's a bunch of Papal Bull!'
-his mother who i havent nailed down casting yet
Going to a private Catholic school was painful at the time, but ultimately ended up great. Parents, siblings, none of us are practicing after getting educated.
Props to this Pope though I guess. If he's making these guys angry he's doing something right. He really should be excommunicating anyone who has been elected to the US federal government though.
The Pope should be doing a lot of things
Instead, just sits around saying shit that nearly every other Pope says and getting high off those hogs
Possibly the funniest bit is said chuds malding over Leo and Francis when opposition to the death penalty has been soft dogma since John Paul II, and conservative pope Benedict XVI called for its abolition.
Someone should tell them that if they're Catholic, doing performance reviews on God's infallible messenger to humankind goes a smidge outside their remit.
I'm not a Catholic but isn't the pope supposed to be Gods Representative on Earth? Isn't Papal Supremacy and Papal Infallibility still a thing? Maybe it's my quasi-protestant upbringing but I was led to believe Catholics received their marching orders from the Pope in Rome. I thought the hierarchical church was Catholicisms whole deal, and what he says goes
Maybe the pope needs to go back to excommunicating these heretics
iirc papal infallibility only comes into play in specific circumstances, it's not just "everything the pope says is gospel"
Specifically, papal infalability is invoked by the Pope himself. If he doesn't say "I am speaking with papal infallibility" then there is no claim to infallibility being made.
however this ruling on the death penalty is dogma and has been for decades. This is one of the cases where Catholics are not allowed to disagree tbh
Yeah, usually I see converts being like this, but I guess even people raised Catholic are sometimes not familiar with literally the most fundamental practical premise of their religion.
yeah, if we don't get a new pope soon i think i'm just going to become a protestant.. i just can't with these low-quality popes they've been picking lately

I just barely know enough to make fun of them
