We're way past needing $15/hr. Should be $20/hr minimum, and really more like $25/hr.

There's people out there providing for their family as the sole bread winner and doing fine on 22/hr, it really depends on where you are living

Yes but imagine if they got 25 instead of 22; they could maybe save a little more and live a little more too.

The focus should be on crushing inflation, not adding inflationary pressure when everyone is already struggling

Yeah, because breaking the inflation pressure is always on the workforce, never on the companies.

I only ever heard "you should abstain from wanting higher salaries, 'cause inflation". Never has a politician or economist said "companies should abstain from raising prices, 'cause inflation" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Who said it's on the workforce? It should be on the cunts that are driving energy prices through the roof

Wage stagnation from greedy corps and almost non-existent minimum wage increases has been happening FAR longer then the current energy shit.

For an equivalent minimum wage to the 1950s, just accounting for inflation, we would need to be at $20/hr. If you're not making that, then you're making less than a McDonald's worker in 1955.

Are there? I’d like to see those numbers. I was earning 16/hr 20 years ago and after state and local tax, health insurance, and mortgage it was choosing what bills wouldn’t get paid until late fees racked up. We weren’t living large, our living space was just over 1,000 square feet.

16/hr 20 years ago is equivalent to about 27/hr today. So I have a hard time beleiving 22/hr is going to be much more than beans ‘n rice for a family - assuming this is a normal work week and not someone pulling 60 hours and OT.

The latest Caleb Hammer show episode has a guy earning 22/hr working in a warehouse supporting his wife that doesn't work. Tons of irresponsible high interest debt, buying 8 balls of cocaine, still smoking, vaping, and he's able to pay back the debt without declaring bankruptcy whilst also putting away a few hundred a month into savings

It's always the smoking in those shows.

Like it's super important to cut back some $100 a' month habit to negotiate cutting several millions off the debt just by talking to the creditors.

Of course smoking is bad financially, but the whole point is really about punching downwards.

Participants need to bend down and quit smoking, vaping, fast food or anything really just so they can be told so and do what is said, like some sick submissive role play.

Meanwhile, actual rich people smoke, vape and eat at restaurants all the time. Because they "can afford to", because they're like fucking heroes just for being rich.

Incredibly, not everyone is able to do that. It takes financial resources and a lack of health issues, for one.

Many countries also have strict immigration requirements.

Yeah really pissed me off spending all those years listening to europeans talk shit about american immigration policies being too strict when all of europe is just like "if your grandparents aren't one of us, you're unskilled labor, or don't have a high enough education fuck off"

Yes, we should be somewhere around $30/hour for a living wage now. Of course this will vary by area.

What a coincidence. My uncle gave me a job at his oil drilling company as long as I agreed to stay ON my pills.

He also gave a fresh college graduate a job there as long as she agreed to stay on the pill.

My uncle is a bad person

His dad is the reason some jobs pay as little as 15$/hr. Those O&G companies lobby the GOP that prevents livable wages and increases inequalities.

  • That's some nice Poe's law there.

Reminds me of my very first job and the addict son who replaced our floor manager.
