Republican former Rep. Liz Cheney said she believes a GOP majority in the House in 2025 would present a “threat” to the country.

“I believe very strongly in those principles and ideals that have defined the Republican Party, but the Republican Party of today has made a choice and they haven’t chosen the Constitution. And so I do think it presents a threat if the Republicans are in the majority in January 2025,” Cheney said in an interview that aired on “CBS Sunday Morning.”

Cheney, who represented Wyoming in Congress from 2017 to 2023, said current House Speaker Mike Johnson was “absolutely” a collaborator in the effort to overthrow the 2020 election and he should not be speaker in 2025.

Liz Cheney wants to act like she’s so altruistic and such a hero, but the fact of the matter is that if she really gave a fuck she would leave the Republican Party. Anything other than that is bullshit lip service. And that’s not to mention all the damage her father did, but I guess I can’t fault her for who her father is.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 11 months ago

It's disgusting people fall for her bullshit, she is a awful human who paved the way for Trump extremists and now she is trying to act like she had no part in it. She helped all this extremist shit along the way until it got too real for her and now wants to act like she fought the good fight the whole time. She's a coward and pathetic excuse for a human

[–] [email protected] 13 points 11 months ago (1 children)

And go where? She's still an extremist, she still wants an extremist party just not quite as much as they are now.

Work a real job for once in her fucking life? Her entire career has been either government jobs her dad got her or sitting on thinktanks. She has a law degree, go be a lawyer. Defend some drunk driver or write up a will or help someone buy a house. Plenty of shit she could be doing.

Halliburton kids just don’t want to work these days.

When the daughter of Dick Cheney is saying the Republicans are too radical, that's a big fucking problem.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

The uniparty doesn't want to go aside. Those against the military industrial complex must be stopped by any means necessary.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

If Saint Ronald Reagan were alive today, they would disavow him as a liberal

kissinger's death recently has led me to understand a few things. your hard right republicans pretrump are realpolitik. they want america on top no matter the cost. MAGA is a grift that's all about squeezing every penny out of the hyper-religious and or uneducated and or fascists. they don't care where america comes out in the end. cheney(s) et al want america on top no matter the cost. MAGA wants themselves on top no matter the cost. project for the new american century is USA USA USA no matter the morals. MAGA is we're number 1 (but just us not you)

I don't agree with your assessment of Kissinger. I believe that is what he wanted you to believe about him.

He broke the peace process in Vietnam just so he could get a job with Nixon and Nixon broke it so he could get a win from LBJ.

Just cause she is "acting" like a human she should not be trusted, she has very radical views and would happily take away all your rights. She is just as responsible for the situation we are in as any Maga and just because she decided to act like some level headed republican doesn't excuse her from all the harm she has done. She was praising the Supreme Court for ending roe v wade and voted every single Trump fascist justice in with a smile

Absolutely correct. The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend. Cheney may make a show of opposing Trump, but she still supported the policies that he did while he was in office.

Cheney came to Washington in 2016, along with Donald Trump. Didn't like him, she said, but she supported his policies on issues like abortion and gun control. She voted with him more than 90 percent of the time.

She might be opposed to Trump but she is still a dirt bag.

Nah. The GOP was a pretty different party during the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. But today’s GOP is the party of Lincoln in name only.

The post Jim Crow GOP has been moving further to right with every passing year, but it was never “overthrow the elected executive” bad. Now it literally is.

I can’t remember a time when they weren’t inexorably marching toward this result though. Every step has been away from both progress and democracy.

I do agree that the label itself has changed but I don’t believe that what we, including Cheney, are talking about.

As far as I can tell, this march began in reaction to the voting rights act, made into law by Northern Democrats in the 60s.

Southern Democrats aka Dixiecrats consequently left their party for the GOP which became the single new home for reactionary, regressive ideologies.

This single minded movement to roll back progress has been underway for almost 60 years now.

Even through the Bush era and a potential McCain presidency the GOP was not anti-American. It was a party that had beliefs but still seemed to have America’s (collective) best interest at heart, even if it was a way I didn’t agree with. Contrast that with today’s Republican Party, which is very clearly party over country.

Dick Cheney and Bush 2 were planning the (re)invasion of Iraq from before 9/11. And tax cuts at all costs beside the military, denial of abortion rights, and deregulation of agencies have been on their platform since Reagan.

Also Bush won his while losing the popular vote and refused to concede in Florida where his brother and the Supreme Court gave him an arguably undemocratic presidency.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I never said Bush/Cheney are immune from criticism, just that their words and behaviors weren’t actively anti-American.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Suggesting they were thinking of the “collective interest” of the American people as you stated, was were I took exception.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

They were, if you take the view that civil liberties are fundamentally American, or a large part of what it means to be American

[–] [email protected] 28 points 11 months ago

She is not wrong about this. Republicans no longer want a democracy (a republic is a democracy). They want to install an autocrat.

Stop voting for Republicans they don't believe in our democracy.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 11 months ago

I feel like a Cheney warning against Republican control is some sort of weird reverse false flag.

Wow he looks fat, how many faces do you think he ate?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Take it from a fat man, mofos only get that way by daily abuse not occasionally binges.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 11 months ago

That she’s still hailed a hero shows how low the bar still is.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Republican former Rep. Liz Cheney said she believes a GOP majority in the House in 2025 would present a “threat” to the country.

And so I do think it presents a threat if the Republicans are in the majority in January 2025,” Cheney said in an interview that aired on “CBS Sunday Morning.”

And we have to ensure that we don’t have a situation where the election that might be thrown into the House of Representatives is overseen by a Republican majority,” she said.

In her new book set to release Tuesday, Cheney issues a strong rebuke of the Republican Party, its leadership and Trump, who she calls “the most dangerous man ever to inhabit the Oval Office,” according to a copy of “Oath and Honor” obtained by CNN.

Cheney served a prominent role as vice chair of the House’s January 6 committee, which uncovered critical details about Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

She has vowed to do whatever is necessary to stop Trump from returning to the White House, including leaving open the door to a 2024 presidential run herself.

"Republican former Rep. Liz Cheney said she believes a GOP majority in the House in 2025 would present a “threat” to the country." So pretty much the same as it's been since at least Reagan, then?
