The Gray Album is what made me aware of mashups, Jay-Z Black Album x The Beatles White Album, by Dangermouse. Could be the epitome.

I also really like Blue Eyes meets Bed Stuy, Notorious B.I.G. and Frank Sinatra, by DJ Cappel and Smitty.
