Of all the insane shit that's spewed out of that godforsaken country these last 10 years, watching this man try to talk about ensuring victims of bestiality related sex trafficking were still able to apply to the FBI with a straight face was amongst the most insane things I've ever seen in my fucking life

Am I misreading the "victims of?" Did he say animals can apply to FBI now?

A Republican asked, when Patel said both sides, "you mean the animal? " Patel give a small smile and said something to the effect of no, we got some great canines. Patel goes on to say there's victims of sexual trafficking forced into bestiality and candidates have been automatically disqualified even though they are victims, but we all know it's cause they're letting in weirdos and sexual predators that are like minded and loyal to the regime.

Either that or they're exceptionally desperate to make a distraction.

All of this shit is less believable than the oil crisis and the price of food.

Completely. This is distraction attempt equivalent to "trans kids taking over sports!!!" claims when A) quit fixating on children's genitals you actual pedophiles and B) actual number of trans kids in these sports is like -4 out of 3 million kids in youth sports. They are getting desperate...

Next up, "Victims of bodily probing by aliens should not have to shop at grocery stores with tall people in green/gray clothing!!!!" "ALL kids in public elementary schools are being forced to use used Capri sun pouches as catheters and then they feed the collected pee to conservative seniors who vote by mail"

It's fascism. It starts out insane and then just gets crazier from there.

These are people that shouldn't be operating a hot dog stand, but the dumbest among us elected a felon rapist conman and these are the people he identifies with, so that's who gets to run the show.

You can thank our dipshit conservatives and the dipshits that didn't vote.

Understanding this immediately as a European makes me realize I'm wayyy too chronically online. USA is the only reality TV show I need.

    Right?

I'm constantly amazed how many foreigners are aware of what's going on in US politics and even details about how our government works.

    1. It shows how much our shitty politics affect the world. I'm sorry.

    2. It highlights how bad Americans are at paying attention and doing their homework because most Americans have no fucking clue what's going on or how their own government works.

To be fair, I'm barely aware of what's going on in other nation's politics, but that's largely because I'm hyper aware of what's going on in U.S. politics and, unfortunately, that takes up a lot of my time and patience and sanity.

Honestly, I know more about US politics than about my own country because I spend more time on Lemmy than reading newspapers. And any time on Lemmy automatically exposes you to US news day in day out

That's by design. It's the same reason you aren't required to take Statistics in high school. If people knew the actual odds of winning the lottery they wouldn't play. Since the poorest Americans and typically only high school graduates play the lottery religiously it make sense.

I don't think it's just not knowing their rights and such. It also needs to get worse before it gets better. Ever maybe change in government across history wasn't done with protests or signing petitions. It was done with a physical revolution. Until we got that point it will be the same shit.

Fucking dogs is inherently non-consensual (no matter how sexy they are) so it's rape and we don't usually talk about rapists loving their victims.

Thinking about how there's gotta be some dogfucker out there going, "Hell yeah I voted for this!" and how he probably has one of the most coherent and internally consistent reasons for voting Republican out of anyone who did.

I’d like to measure my love for dogs on some z-axis which is unassociated with the dog-murder-to-dog-rape spectrum please

Can someone please explain to a non American (there are dozens of us! Dozens!)? I understand the Kash Patel reference but who is the lady on the left (even though judging by her Mar a Lago face she’s on the right too) is and why she hates doggos?

That's Kristi Noem, a Republican who wrote in her autobiography about how she shot her dog after failing to train it and claimed it showed she was capable of doing "dirty, messy, and ugly" things in politics too.

Kristi Noem, on the left, is the former Director of Homeland Security. She was behind a lot of the ICE bullshit, and was fired by Trump a few months back. She bragged in her book that she shot and killed her dog because she couldn't train it.

Kash Patel, on the left, is the current FBI Director. He's terrible in every way. But the current news on him is about him changes in the FBI hiring process that include removal of automatic disqualification of those who had previously stolen from their employers or engaged in prostitution or beastiality.

Where do we count the meat, dairy, etc. industry lobbyist and legislators making exceptions to the laws in almost every state in the US?

As state legislatures began proposing anti-bestiality laws in the 1990s, the agriculture lobby repeatedly opposed the bills

    [...]

Of the 27 states that have enacted bestiality statutes since 1990, 24 include nearly identical exemptions for animal husbandry. (Kansas, Iowa, and Delaware’s laws do not.) With the exemptions included, agricultural interests in many states have gone from covertly opposing anti-bestiality bills to either staying mum or even lobbying for them

Great news for me! I was ready to congratulate all the people I know who have committed acts of bestiality, even set aside a couple hours on my calendar for it. Didn't need even a moment of that two hour block because I don't know a single person who's ever done that sort of thing.

Now I got two hours to kill and started thinking about something my uncle used to say "I'm fucking this cat, you just hold the tail." Which was a pretty vulgar thing to say to a 10 year old but also what the fuck Uncle Mike?

I read somewhere that the same provision that forbade bestiality also disqualifies people who have been found to have paid for sex three or more times in the last ten years. I think that what's actually happening is that Patel, or a buddy of his, got caught hiring prostitutes a few too many times, and now want to repeal the rule so they don't get kicked out.

But someone saw 'bestiality' and decided to make it about that to distract people.
