They just should have contributed to Arch instead of this bunch of script nazi distro
post
The real kicker is that Omarchy is a shit distro, it's just Arch with some very badly written scripts thrown on top. Any of the other Arch derived distros or just plain Arch itself are way better options.
The kicker is the doubling down by the CEO.
It’s one thing to step in a pile of shit; it’s quite another when people tell you, “Hey dude you just stepped in a cow patty”, to reply, “No I didn’t, and even if I did, I actually think it smells quite nice”
The only other corporate sponsor is 37signals, a company DHH is already involved with, so 1Password is kind of the first company to step in this particular shit. Maybe they can serve as a warning to other companies.
Based on this article I read, it seems like all of the companies are linked in some way with Shopify (which DHH is a board member of)
An unfortunate turn. 1Password has been at the front of the pack in password managers for a long time. There are other options, but 1Password has stood out for features and because “it just works.”
Now I suppose I’ll have to find an alternative. I like Bitwarden’s openness but it isn’t nearly as polished. Maybe this is an opportunity for them or others to rise to the front.
In an internal Slack message obtained by The Verge, 1Password’s Karimov downplayed the overtly racist comments from DHH, telling staff the following:
As I said, people have different personal opinions. You believe in your heart that DHH is evil, that you have the moral high ground, and that nothing will change your mind.
However, not everyone believes that. It is not fair to claim a monopoly and ostracize team members who might disagree with you.
There are people who are afraid to speak up simply because they will be personally attacked.
What bigots don't understand, is that when they say to literally kill immigrants, and someone calls them a violent bigot...
The bigots aren't being "attacked" someone is just acknowledging reality.
If bigots were being "personally attacked" for advocating genocide, it would include physical violence, not someone calling them a violent bigot.
And when they conflate the two, someone on the other side is going to physically respond. Because at a certain point the consequence for acknowledging reality and fighting back is the same.
Edit:
And this is another example of why we don't advertise these shitty rightwing products.
The guy who gave 300k didn't hear about this distro cuz it worked, he saw articles about how they're nazis, and he supports Nazis.
Complaining about them constantly just gives them free advertisement
However, not everyone believes that. It is not fair to claim a monopoly and ostracize team members who might disagree with you.
Karimov is definitely telling on himself there. If you think it's "not fair" to ostracize racists, you're a motherfucking racist!
1Password is now outed as a NAZI organization. Period.
You can make a multi line quote show up as one quote block by putting 2 spaces at the end of each line. Blank lines need the > plus the spaces.
The weasel words in that quote, especially in paragraph 2, are blinding. He's definitely the kind of person that complains about people attacking his "free speech".
