I was a kid at the time, everyone doctored the ads to say, "Gee, your hair smells" .

Is this really you want to say to a chick? Is that something any chick would be excited to hear and not yucked out?

That's how advertising works: First they have to make you think you have a problem, then they offer you the solution, which they just happen to have.

In this case, the title implants the the thought that a woman should think about what her hair smells like. It never occured to her before, but of course she wants her hair to smell nice, so she buys it.

Listerine was originally a cleaning product, and the company wanted to expand the market for it, so they ran ads convincing people that they should worry about Halitosis - Bad Breath - and Listerine was the perfect solution.

Ah those were the days. I Can't Believe It's not Butter seems to be the only survivor of that era. No more Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo, no more Yuck, There's Something on my Ass toilet paper, no more I Want to Wear White Pants Today tampons...

An age fading away into the mists of time.

these days, you can believe it's not butter. butter is sooooo much better than what those 'spread' products have become over the years from having anything resembling quality and taste cut out for more profits.

Maybe depends on health goals and which product? If your primary goal is lowering high cholesterol, choose a soft, trans-fat-free plant sterol tub spread or swap to liquid oils like extra virgin olive oil. If your goal is avoiding highly processed foods and you have normal cholesterol levels, modest amounts of grass-fed butter are highly preferred over generic butter and margarine.

It's time to bring back more brand names that are entire sentences. I Can't Believe It's Not Butter has been holding it down alone for too long.

Well, you see, Biden was more polite about it, though.

And, okay, but you gotta admit there's some ways Biden was less bad:

    • Didn't fuck as many kids, as egregiously, and hasn't been credibly accused of killing any of them or of forcing them to get abortions.

    • Didn't fuck up the global economy with dumbass trade wars and dumbass regular wars.

    • Didn't hate and persecute trans people nearly as much.

    • Didn't try to fuck with elections.

    • Didn't attempt to control the media

    • Didn't invite his billionaire buddy to come do Nazi salutes on stage on live TV.

    • Didn't try to sell off national park land to oil companies and logging companies.

    • Didn't dismantle the leadership of federal agencies and try to install his unqualified cronies instead.

    • Was arguably doing the best he could to get the economy back on track and inflation under control, instead of doing the exact opposite.

    • Didn't accept extravagant 'totally not a bribe' gifts from semi-hostile foreign nations.

    • Didn't bulldoze a third of the White House without the required authorization.

    • Didn't attempt to arrest and prosecute a former Olympic athlete for touching water.

    • Etc, etc, etc.

I'm no Biden fan. Far from it. But you've got to admit that Trump is demonstrably, materially worse in a lot of ways.

Didn’t fuck up the global economy with dumbass trade wars and dumbass regular wars.

    Yes he did.

Didn’t attempt to control the media

    Yes he did.

Didn’t try to sell off national park land to oil companies and logging companies.

    Yes he did.

Was arguably doing the best he could to get the economy back on track and inflation under control, instead of doing the exact opposite.

I didn't see that happen at all.

Didn’t accept extravagant ‘totally not a bribe’ gifts from semi-hostile foreign nations.

    Yes he did.

    The rest I agree with.

But you’ve got to admit that Trump is demonstrably, materially worse in a lot of ways.

I do agree that Biden was marginally better. But that's not the claim that was made. The claim was that Biden was "still infinity better".

    ...still infinity better...

...a difference be it as small as it may be...

I was simply pointing out that one of these is very different than the other. I never said that I didn't see a difference between the two.

I also find it pretty telling that someone showing support for a genocide-supporting, rapist and child-killer is calling me a boot-licker.
