"We have a lot of opportunities. We're growing. We're building in a lot of places, but when you find a conservative, business-friendly state with a phenomenal workforce, it makes a difference," Aplin said in a video shared by Huckabee Sanders on social media. "And I'm starting to realize life's too short to try to build in places that people don't appreciate what you're bringing versus a place like this, where people do appreciate what you're building."

"So that leadership, that concept, that idea of conservative, business-friendly, family-oriented concept works so much better if it trickles down from the very leadership," Aplin said. "From the very top at the governor's office, at the congressman, at the senator, at the mayor (and) the representatives."

These guys also relentlessly pursue intellectual property claims against even vaguely related logos.

I was gonna make a shitpost last week that the 2nd Civil War here in amerikkka will be fought between the full treatlerite nazi states who have Buc-ees as the new confederacy and the states without Buc-ees as the resistance

this no longer feels like a joke, feels like I have my hands on the lathe and have accidentally cursed us into the worst timeline

There’s this giant fucking bowl in California full of agriculture you can see from space and it’s worked by Mexican immigrants and some of that shit is the hardest, backbreaking work you can conceivably do. There’s a bajillion pickup trucks all over it, too.

But that’s not a red state and they aren’t white, so even though it has a fuckton of white chud landowners it’s ignored by their fellow red state chuds whenever they want to gloat about how they are Real Americans on the Twitter from the Buccees parking lot

So I'm guessing it's a "We can save a lot of money due to worse labor laws and huge amounts of corruption in those states" being framed as blind loyalty towards the party.

Buc-ee's is the closest thing I've seen to a protestant cathedral.

Buc-ee's is an American thing being done Americanly by Americans. Don't put this evil on anyone or anything else.

Most of the things that make American culture so fucked up are just the consequences of Protestantism going unchecked. Buc-ee's is the culmination of that four-century project. When the empire falls, protestants will go on wasteland pilgrimages to different Buc-ee's locations for souvenirs and absolution.

Once again I am left with the question of what the fuck you guys think protestantism is, and a deep desire to renew my membership to the lutheran church out of pure spite towards this nonsense.

You can pick one individual branch of protestantism and say it doesn't reflect their beliefs, but what is the US if not a godly city on a hill with a protestant work ethic driving its entire legal philosophy and history? It's a big stupid slop pot of individual church movements doing a Millennialist project or justifying their actions by their personal relationship to god. The puritans we shipped over to found it were protestants too protestant for other protestants in the most protestant country outside of Germany. If protestants have a Zion it's the closest Buc-ee's to Branson, Missouri.

There's no central authority for scripture or Christianity, your individual faith defines your morality. I get the strict doctrinal distinctions but I'm talking about the socio-philosophical influence on the wider secularised systems. It would be silly to say the US isn't deeply protestant.

There's no central authority for scripture or Christianity, your individual faith defines your morality

We can be very narrow and go to the solae, or demand that it be only those movements that arose from the protestant reformation, or we can be very broad and say that it is any branch of western Christianity that is not Catholic. Protestantism can have an extremely centralised authority over what defines acceptable christianity, in fact it can even have a state be that authority and enforce it by violence. Anglicans and Lutherans generally have centralised and hierarchical authorities dealing with matters of doctrine.

The most American branch of Christianity is mormonism, and mormonism isn't even protestant except by the widest possible definition.

What you want to talk about is the Matt Christman warped take on protestant work ethic (Itself a deeply flawed, unmaterialist and supremacist viewpoint written by protestants to jerk themselves off about how great protestantism is) and how protestantism is the source of all America's ills because it created capitalism and American consumer culture. Which it didn't.
But also nominally Catholic America has the same brain worms, as do nominally Jewish Americans, as do nominally Muslim Americans. America has a civic religion and that religion is not protestantism. It is greatly influenced by protestantism, certainly but this a temple American consumer culture built by Americans for the splendour of America and the American civic religion can be celebrated there by all despite their nominal creed. Jew, Muslim. Catholic, Hindu, pagan, atheist all can worship the rodent and the almighty dollar.

There's a sign by the highway where I live, i forget the exact number but it says something like "Buc-ee's - 493 Miles"

like who the fuck is gonna drive by that sign and be like "hey kids, just about eight and a half more hours of driving and we'll get to stop at the gas station with a T shirt rack!"

(also it's right by a Pilot J and a Maverick both of which have all of the same shit that Buc-ee's has this is a big truckers pass through area)

You know we all knew this, right? Like, it was implied and there was tacit acceptance of this by everyone but now that you’ve said this out loud a significant amount of potential customers are going to find it gauche and lame? It used to be the big hog amusement theme park where we could see the zoo animals in their natural habitat and you’ve just taken the fun out of it.

    The capitalist class everyone.

But the store bit is like this strange fever dream hybrid of a convenience store, dollar store with a bizarre selection of products, and a hot serve buffet.

I wish I was making this up.

It's a massive gas station. Buc-ee's are known for having 80-120 gas pumps per gas station.

A Buc-ee’s employee summarized the practical reality in a Reddit thread about the store’s scale: the location genuinely has more than enough business to justify even its largest 120-pump configurations during peak periods. Despite the sheer number of pumps, it can still feel like a challenge to snag an open one during the busiest weekend travel windows — which tells you just how much traffic these flagship locations actually pull in.
