“trump legitimizes a dictator. Again.”

[-] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 hours ago

The tankies have something in common with Trump then, huh.

[-] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 30 points 14 hours ago

He is an irredeemable piece of shit.

[-] Saffire@sh.itjust.works 17 points 14 hours ago

Yeah and Kim Jong Un sucks too.

[-] grte@lemmy.ca 47 points 15 hours ago

Most likely an excuse to cover pulling more equipment/manpower from the area to throw at the failing Iran war.

[-] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 15 points 15 hours ago

This was exactly my thought as well

Well done USA. this is why democracies around the world don't trust you anymore.
I wonder who Americans will elect next? Maybe J. D. Vance or Pete Hegseth? Unless of course they can find someone even more crazy. 😬

It's absolutely insane that USA isn't even moderately on the side of democracy anymore. But instead favor enemies of democracy, and have themselves become an enemy to democracy too.

Ivanka will inherit the White House. Democracy in the US is dead and gone.

[-] moustachio@lemmy.world 16 points 14 hours ago

You can just call it “the American Regime.” We’ve been that way a long time if anyone stands in the way of corporate profits, or capitalism… but now we’re just mask off fully because we have an idiot in charge.

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

There used to be a synergy between supporting freedom democracy and having the economy thrive on it.
USA is now disregarding and throwing overboard everything that made USA the world leader with the most allies of any country ever.

[-] moustachio@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

Which supporting freedom democracy did we support? Are you just not counting the socialist and communist democracies our CIA overthrew and installed a pro capitalist dictator?

Believing the USA was ever a “freedom democracy” supporter is pure delusion.

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world -3 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

You are very very wrong.
When they liberated Europe and the world in WW2 from the axis powers together with England, Canada and many other allies, there is no doubt USA supported freedom and democracy. And even granted the conquered countries their freedom.

[-] moustachio@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

So USA’s identity stems from 1945 years ago after a world war, and not the other most recent 80 years of despicable, anti democratic behavior?

I fail to see how that’s not completely delusional.

Which supporting freedom democracy did we support?

You just wrote in past tense, giving me the freedom to use the most obvious example that you are wrong.

Believing the USA was ever a “freedom democracy” supporter is pure delusion.

Here you even use EVER, further legitimizing my point.
You are moving the goal post, and absolutely USA has been helping democracies like for instance South Korea and Taiwan a lot, even Japan could be included in that list. And the formation of NATO to protect democracies against Soviet Union and now Russia is also an example.
Trump is not a NATO supporter, he is on the contrary trying to destroy it. And NATO is absolutely created with the main objective to defend democracies on both sides of the Atlantic.

Let’s not forget that it’s not “Americans “ it’s some Americans

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 0 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Oh, and these Americans who it is not, are relevant to this how?
you only have 1 government, and that's the 1 Americans elected, and ALL Americans are part of USA and American civilization.
Meaning that even if they disagree with the government, they are part of the economy, workforce and society the government control.

I sympathize with every American that voted against Trump, and tried to prevent this, and those that have demonstrated against him. But unfortunately it doesn't change what USA currently is to the rest of the world, and how we need to relate to USA as a country.

[-] Ariselas@piefed.ca 1 points 13 hours ago

Don't worry the Dems will appoint the most evil Neo-Lib possible and make sure no one comes out to vote for them and ensuring another Republican government.

wait, that's not a good option

Check Polymarket for bets on NK invading SK.

If there's a bet, you know that he's gonna make money from it and it'll most likely be announced.

[-] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 4 points 12 hours ago

Iran should take notes. The best time to develop nukes was twenty years ago. The second best time is now. One missile aimed at the Epsteini capital and you too can have a 'very good relationship'.
