I think it’s actually important to be able to thoroughly defend views you oppose. You can’t rightly oppose a view you don’t properly understand.

I think it makes sense to pick up arguments for views you oppose and address them properly in an essay, although I think that should serve a proper analysis where you give those arguments a fair chance, but also have the freedom to point out their flaws.

But I always felt that arguing for any view, assigned by chance, like in debate clubs for example, gave way to accepting a certain ambiguity of truth. Being confronted with different arguments and weighing them is an improtant skill to be learned and if your analysis is set up to reach a certain conclusion, it strips you of the open-endedness, that is actually needed.

I disagree; your view sucks

Just use the Reductio ad Absurdum method. Take their bs, and word vomit all of their views back, but take it to an extreme to show how terrible it is.

It will be a fun form of protest.

If you can meet the word count using views you oppose, you can also meet the word count arguing against those views.

Unless you have no counter-arguments, in which case you need to do some research and reflection lol

After the school bell was broken for a very long time it was considered to shut it off permanently. We were supposed to argue for or against it in an essay. At least one guy who wanted to keep the bell still argued for getting rid of it because he had more arguments for that.
