Is it possible that, one day, when real government is restored, Trump's assets will be seized to help ray for the damage he's done?

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 hours ago

It'll turn out that all his wealth was on worthless paper and all of his tchotchkes were just gold spray-paint.

[-] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 hours ago

People hate on trump but he's honestly the perfect image of American Culture. That's probably why he was chosen as a muppet for whoever owns him.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 10 points 10 hours ago

he is the final symptom of a larger disease yes.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 hours ago

final

Pretty optimistic

[-] cheers_queers@lemmy.zip 8 points 14 hours ago

he was chosen because he is an easily manipulated moron, he doesnt represent all or even half of us.

You just explained how he represents us perfectly well lmao

[-] Trampampoline@sh.itjust.works 2 points 13 hours ago

Right, Trump's a coward.

[-] Mannimarco@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 13 hours ago

He's your president, like it or not he represents the United States, all of it

[-] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

He represents himself.

[-] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 hours ago

yeah, but not really

[-] IAmYouButYouDontKnowYet@reddthat.com -1 points 14 hours ago

Which is exactly the mindset of Americans. That's exactly what my original post means.

As bad as he is as a person, Trump isn't the cause of the problems, he is a manifestation of them. He exploits them for personal gain but the system allows him to do it. The problems will not be resolved if there is another presidential election and he isn't re-elected. The problems are deeper. To resolve them, a very broadly based restoration of ethics is required.

[-] x00z@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

I see it differently.

These type of politicians exaggerate small problems and make people think about them as much as possible so it is perceived as big problems and then they sell themselves as the solution. Immigration, fake news, presidential corruption, LGBT, DEI, and all other "problems" Trump abused to gain power, were never as bad as they made many people believe.

The system allows for this kind of mass manipulation, so it's definitely a bad system. But these politicians are as much to blame for the "problems" they force into the minds of people as the system is for allowing it.

None of those are the problems we're talking about. We're talking about checks and balances which are now exposed to be a big joke. This is like maybe the first time we caught a neighbor stealing our wifi, but we literally never had a password on it. The problem was the security of our system the whole time, not the new neighbor who moved in and stole it for the first time.

[-] DokPsy@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

Arguably, it's even worse than normal if he is reelected

[-] Almacca@aussie.zone 14 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

'Expressing alarm' is meaningless without actually responding to the alarm. That whole article is full of statements like "alarmed legal and ethics experts", "critics raised red flags", "analysts are troubled", "experts have raised “corruption” concerns", "offer equally strong critiques", "We have previously raised concerns..." etc, and not a single word about anyone doing anything beyond a sternly worded letter.

Everyone: "Hey! The smoke alarm in the kitchen is going off!"

Democratic Party: "Damn. Anyway, moving on"

Sort your shit out, America.

[edited comment after reading the whole dispiriting article]

[-] supersquirrel@lemmy.ca 7 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Well a big problem with the US is that the establishment of the Democratic party has been saying for the last 30 years "NOT NOW, this election is TOO IMPORTANT TO TALK ABOUT THE FIRE ALARM" to people who are hurt and scared because they feel like they are definitely in a burning building.

[-] Almacca@aussie.zone 5 points 17 hours ago

And meanwhile, they're defunding the fire department.

[-] supersquirrel@lemmy.ca 1 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Ok buddy, when was the last time YOU saw a large housefire without it being surrounded by firetrucks?

Explain That

Do you REALLLLLYYYYYY think it is a coincidence?

[-] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 0 points 14 hours ago

Yes, surely the democratic party is the one to blame here.

[-] Trampampoline@sh.itjust.works 1 points 13 hours ago

Yeah, they are.

They offered voters nothing.

Nothing got you all here. Voters didn't turn out because they didn't believe in either candidate. A minority of leftists and liberals even wanted Kamala Harris, they were just voting by default to fuck Trump.

There was no real hope there, just a stab at the status quo for a few more years before Team Nazi tried again, and they would've. Democrats are worse at handling Republicans than Ash Ketchum is at handling Team Rocket.

oh, and fuck Jill Stein.

[-] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 0 points 13 hours ago

So, 50% of the population is responsible for the horrors the other 50% perpetrated on the world? Talk about blaming the victim.

I don't know where you live, or how old you are, but I have a feeling that you should probably keep your opinions to yourself until you have a little more to stand on, because that was a terrible take.

[-] Trampampoline@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Listen, lil bruh, degrading comments leave you with less stand on because they're hollow and cheap. Maybe if the Democowards had more to stand on in 2024 beyond being a four-year pause button instead of actually furthering socialist policies that benefit anyone, people would give enough of a shit to leave the house in November.

I'd camp out in the parking lot for AOC.

[-] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 1 points 28 minutes ago

The DNC didn't drive down engagement, the "both sides", the "Kamala is a cop", and the "Kamala Supports Genocide" people did. Things like that only further the GOP agenda. I don't want another repeat of the last 4 years, so I don't really give a shit if they run Kamala again or Hunter Biden, because literally anything is better than what we have now. Is AOC a better candidate? Yes, no doubt. But in a year and a half, ifshe's running, people like you will find some flaw in her policy and claim she's just another "corpodemocrat mouthpiece."

[-] ChristerMLB@piefed.social 2 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

My impression is that the left just kind of petered out around the 1980s, because there was a broadly felt sense that "everyone is middle class now" - leaving the US with a "leftist" party that really was more "moderately conservative", and a Republican party that was fumbling its way closer and closer to fascism, via "populist" conservatism.

To quote the usual phrase: Republicans are the reason things got worse, Democrats are the reason things did not get better. I think that's what people are getting at. If you want to get out of this situation, the US needs Democrats who actually want to make things significantly and noticeably better - and Democrats who stand in the way of that, are part of the problem.

[-] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

It's wild to me that everyone wants to blame the people they think should be fixing the system instead of blaming the ones that broke it...

The dems are still in congress voting yes enough that trump gets most of his policies through. They should be voting no on everything and shutting the government down because a literal genocidal maniac who rapes children is the president.

[-] ChristerMLB@piefed.social 1 points 6 hours ago

Sure, in fact I don't think that throwing blame around is a very useful exercise right now. We need to focus on understanding the problem and fixing it

[-] Almacca@aussie.zone 1 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Amongst others, including every US citizen.

[-] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Then maybe you should list the others...

Edit, since you edited without flagging it...

You put the blame for 100% of the system on 50% of the population in your original post. Now, you blame every American citizen. Seems weird you are avoiding calling out the GOP or Republicans by name.

Boycott to prevent taxes going to Trump's goons.

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 2 points 16 hours ago

Everytime I read about Trump and those around him, I think of this scene. Everytime, I am suddenly overcome by an overwhelming desire for a genie to grant me a wish.

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.
