Yep, I've already got an emulator for my cherished Xbox games I bought when they were new.
I'm not letting them resell me the memories of when they weren't a joke. Lol
I particularly couldn't care less about Game Pass at this point. I'm just fine without paying Microsoft for anything. But I suppose that's good for those who still use Windows just for that.
At least I find it interesting to have Linux supporting software that it wasn't technically suppose to.

But sometimes a product comes with free month of gamepass or something, and I don't fault anyone for using that to game. And if I were going to do that, I'd rather do it on Linux.

For people like me who just adore and love the forza horizon series, it will be the only way to play without windows or repurchasing newer titles on steam. It's a clear plus in my book. Fuck microslop tho.

Yikes. I don't play many online games so I am not very knowledgeable on the situation over there. I just used online-fix a few times and it was so horrible I had to buy my second piece of paid software.
Always good to give more access to software. I have no use for it, but I very well could in the future.
If it means I can play Minecraft Bedrock with my normie homies, I'm in for it. Though I can see Microsoft not appreciating an other reason for people to dump the fuck out of Windows.

It's an operating system, not a philosophy.
Both is true. Mustard gas is weapon and a war crime. These thing co-exist. The philisophy of Linux is that you can do with it whatever you want - use it, change it, redistrobute it. Renting software is definitely on the other side of the spectrum where even availability and especially ownership are a not part of the product.
Being dogmatic about how people use the use-it-however-you-want-OS is a bit silly, no?
Hell Linus even made the call to stick to the GPL v2 and allow Tivoisation.
I don't care how people use Linux. Like I said: You can do with it whatever you want. That is the phiilosophy behind it. But I think people should know that something like GamePass is in the end the same thing they tried to avoid when chosing Linux in the first place.
Idk how game pass is implemented a way, maybe there's a way to keep playing after cancelling the subscription when this is open source.
I think overall it will be good. We already rely on windows dependent games anyway for 90% of the gaming on the platform. So I don't see why gamepass would be any different than wine or proton.
If we were gonna hold that line, then really we should have been super against having any type of transitional layer as a whole. But I don't think that's the right choice because the Linux ecosystem is a minority and you're not going to get that to change anytime soon by making it actively harder for people to want to jump in. I think that it needs all the help that it can get currently.
The more accessible the better. Simple as.
Moving away from a proprietary OS to a (mostly) software freedom respecting OS is good. A shame that video games are proprietary.
I will not be using this workaround, even if it works perfectly. However, if this gets people away from Windows, that's a good thing as a step towards getting them away from Microsoft in general.
The fewer data points Microsoft can exploit the better.
I know people who are ready to leave Windows, but this and kernel level anti cheat games are keeping them away from Linux.
And my constant reminders that they didyn't need those games doesn't work.

I'm not really sure what game pass is since it appeared so long after I switched to Linux, but I figure that I've lived so long without it that it's not going to matter now.

It's actually a little surprised that something like this hasn't been done already. Not having Game Pass on Linux was actually the second biggest reason(the first being price) that I canceled my game pass subscription anyway because I used my computer 90% of the time so it didn't make sense to keep Game Pass Ultimate. But Game Pass for PC didn't work on Linux, so it was better off just not having it at all.
GPU is pretty much the only way that my Series X gets used. We just haven’t consistently bought Xbox games since the 360 era. So it is our smallest digital library and I’d prefer to just not invest in Xbox or Sony at this point.
Yeah, I actually had a similar instance regarding Game Pass.
The Series X was my first Xbox ever because I had been a Sony fan all my life, but the launch of the PS5, the supply was non-existent. And the only way I could get a Series X was doing their All Access Pass deal, which was the two-year payment plan that gave you Ultimate alongside it.
I feel like it worked against Microsoft's favor, because yes, it hooked me on Xbox for two or three years. However, since they forced you to have Game Pass Ultimate along with it, I never purchased any games to get with it. So therefore, when I cancelled my Game Pass subscription at the end of it, I had no reason to turn the console on again.
Only game I care about from Microsoft is Halo Wars 2. Shame it got released as a UWP application.
So, ironically, part of the reason I sold my Xbox was that streaming from Xbox to windows didn't even work properly.
I don't see this as a bad thing for people who want it. Steam doesn't offer something similar to game pass (I wish they did)
Wasn’t familiar with the project, but it also covers the microsoft store games, i.e. not streaming only.
