I'd say no clue, but seeing as I pay your salary fetch me some water

[-] Tiral@lemmy.world 1 points 17 minutes ago

I got pulled over once when I was younger. I used to street race in the Chicago are so I was quite used to cops (this is 20 years ago). Anyways I get pulled over and he says the line. I told him my speedo only goes to 120mph and I was well past that. He goes "138" I'm like damn. Welp going to jail. Checked my license ect, then asked to see my friends ID to check for warrants. He flipped open his wallet and he's a local PD for a adjacent department. The cops looks at me and him and goes "You mother fuckers need to go home and park this, if I see you again I sware the Christ...." No problem officer!

Dropped my car off and got my cop buddies Camaro SS for the rest of the night.

"Hi officer, I think I was doing about -"

[-] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 29 points 2 hours ago

Answering this question makes it easy for the cop to write it in his report that you admitted guilt.

"Obviously not fast enough since you caught up with me"

I used to watch this British show called Police Interceptors. The narrator loved talking about how the officers drive Subaru Imprezas and Mitsubishi Evo 9s/10s, and that their top speed is 155mph. My thought was always "So get a car that goes faster than 155, got it"

I dont even need a damned car lol

[-] cRazi_man@europe.pub 23 points 2 hours ago

I know someone who said he has no idea what his speed was. When the cop was pressing harder and harder to get him to accept he asked "do you have a calibrated speed gun in your car". The cop admitted he didn't and the guy said "this conversation is over then", and the cop let him drive off.

I felt like I was being a giant asshole but I got off the same way. Cop was trying to make me admit to driving fast. I said I wasn’t and asked what they clocked me at. They said they didn’t get me with the radar gun. I said “ok,” and just stared at her.

Someone else posted these recently. Always a good reminder:

Shut the fuck up Friday

Don't talk to the police

[-] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 9 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

You can just look at him and not answer.

You need to give them license, registration, and proof of insurance, and otherwise comply, but you don't need to talk to them.

And, it just occurred to me, as an old man, if I could somehow cry it might just make the cop uncomfortable enough to let me go. LOL.

Sob, "Ever since Marie died I've had nobody to tell me how fast I'm driving while I keep my eyes on the road. It's like I'm missing half my soul..."

[-] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 7 points 1 hour ago

"Do you? Or are you trying to copy my answer?"

[-] radiouser@crazypeople.online 14 points 2 hours ago

The only good answer is "to my knowledge I was driving within the limit".

If you say "yes" and were speeding you've just admitted you knew you were speeding, if you say "no" you've just admitted you weren't keeping track of your speed.

[-] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 8 points 2 hours ago

"I invoke my 4th and 5th amendment rights" is a much better idea.

[-] Zidane@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 hour ago

As long as you're white, otherwise it will be escalating

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

"Good evening, Officer. Do you know if your spouse knows that you're a liar?"

[-] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

I feel like not knowing how fast you were going is also an admission of guilt though. Like, youre supposed to monitor that.

[-] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 40 minutes ago

Then don't answer it. You're not obligated to.

[-] Return_of_Chippy@lemmy.world 0 points 1 hour ago

What's that?

[-] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 hour ago

I know this is a joke, but, no it is your job as a driver to know how fast you are going. It is one of the basic rules of having the privilege to drive. Of course the fact that so many drivers seem to think this is some kind of infringement is why there are so many fatal accidents. Which wouldn't be so bad if they only maimed and killed the speeders & drunks.

[-] Return_of_Chippy@lemmy.world 0 points 1 hour ago

It's not a joke.
