Power corrupts. They are a world power and know that they can get away with some things that all governments want to do, but many fear their own people or external governments too much to try.

At the same time, most of the people in the government haven’t lost their humanity entirely and want to do things that help in the ways that they can. That’s also true of most of the people in most governments everywhere, but China's propaganda is less anti-science and more community focused than that of a lot of other countries, so the problems that individuals in government want to solve and the solutions they come up with are better for the world at large than those in governments with anti-scientific, individualistic propaganda.

World superpowers can only exist through force or exploitation, so they’re inherently evil, but not everything that comes from them is automatically evil (to be clear, I’m not saying we shouldn’t walk away from Omelas, just that you can recognize how awesome China's rail system or its incredible climb out of widespread poverty is without supporting the genocide of Uyghurs).

It's not a lot. But it's enough to make pilots have second thoughts about flying over Iran. If they do well I'd imagine more will be on the way. This will be the first time they are deployed against western tech in mass. So I expect this is a trail period. But also, this is one step closer to WW3.
