We can’t retaliate if they don’t hit anything.

What an odd way to say "America started a drone war without enough weapons to intercept drones."

Haigseth is basically coming out and admitting that they've blown through the vast majority of our weaponry (in front of Congress, which is hilarious).

"We wasted 40 billion dollars. Please give me 80 billion more".

Essentially, but the subtext is a bunch of righteous indignation from somebody who couldn't spell the phrase.

What's not hilarious is that they don't do shit about it. Ever.

source? I only saw him beg( threaten) for money and not give even estimates.

Probably the same things you watched. He very literally complained that they were just about out of munitions and that was why he was there begging for money. He keeps whining that our national safety is at risk because of their dumb asses.

Come on Denmark, now's the time to invade the US.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 hours ago

Hey! That's OUR thing! 🇨🇦

Look, as a representative of the United States I'm just going to put out there that we will welcome an entire coalition of friends to invade us and set us free.

Anybody with a passing interest in modern military could have told you this. You don't want to use an interceptor worth $2m to shoot down a drone that costs tens of thousands, unless it's heading for something vital. Remember too that an interceptor system can't just be purchased in unlimited quantities, so in the short term a fired missile is one less you have for tomorrows threats.

Ukraine and Russia have been doing this math every day for like 5 years.

[-] Blade9732@lemmy.world 12 points 5 hours ago

It's almost like they should have been working with and learning from Ukraine this whole time. I guess they will blame all this on Biden.

My bad guys, I was always bad with managing ammo in game

[-] KnitWit@lemmy.world 22 points 10 hours ago

‘I let you score that goal’

[-] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 10 points 9 hours ago

Not like this info should be suppressed, but now I'm guessing Iran will just send more drones without payloads to save on their munitions.

[-] cy888@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

I have no problems with this.

Limited resource conserved to maximize utility.

I could see Trump and Hegseth letting more service members die to stoke public outrage against Iran in the runup to midterms. It won't work, mind you, but I could see them doing it.

[-] Pogogunner@sopuli.xyz 10 points 8 hours ago

Independents are more likely to see the deaths as Trumps fault. The legacy of the Iraq war runs deep, Americans do not want to have troops in the middle east.

Wouldnt want your opposition to feel too bad, right?

The fuck is this headline?
