Db0 discovering the blocklist https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/72685299

Someone pointed out that the developer of the frontend added an explicit hidden and unmodifiably blacklist which includes any and all instances to the left of Kissinger.

Congratulations

I'm not listed, I gotta up my game

How many more times do I need to post "death to the zionist regime" and "the dogs of capital deserve more 9/11s" to get some recognition around here?

[-] haxboar@hexbear.net 19 points 13 hours ago

Y'all are shit-talking this, but I just found a bunch of new, fun instances to start checking out. Thanks for your bone-headed support, tesseract!

Censorship is the highest form of flattery

Lol, you have to look at the commit history: https://github.com/asimons04/tesseract/commit/84c1b14c0606b6659d42faf3f47ff5705e2a0072

Shadow banning users, blocking archive sites, it's a gold mine of liberal authoritarian brain worms.

export const SHADOWBAN_USERS = [
    ['https://lemmy.ml/u/jackeroni', 'Misinformaiton/Propaganda'],
    ['https://lemmy.ml/u/yogthos', 'Misinformation/Propaganda, Conspiracy, '],

I'm just now realizing the user shadow bans have reasons, and some of them are so petty!

export const EXTREMIST_COMMUNITIES = [
    'https://lemmy.world/c/luigimangione',
    'https://lemmy.ml/c/luigimangione',
    'https://awful.systems/c/sneerclub'
]

Wait, why is !cybersecurity@sh.itjust.works an extremist community?

Uhoh, we've been embargoed

// Users of these instances are barred from using the application
export const EMBARGOED_INSTANCES = [
    'chapo.chat',
    'feddit.rocks',
    'hexbear.net',

    'lemmyusa.com',
    'r.nf',
    'realbitcoin.cash',
    'redlemmy.com',
    'welppp.com'
]

Why is Infowars not listed under "fake news" HMMM?

[-] agentant@hexbear.net 15 points 12 hours ago

I like the inclusion of the non-existent hexbear.com as an embargoed instance. Also does this just like, check for users of the same name on these platforms?

[-] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 35 points 18 hours ago

Not knowing that the Git blame log exists because it's the end of history is peak liberalism

[-] RedWizard@hexbear.net 29 points 17 hours ago

The great thing about open source is that ANYONE can review the code themselves! Puts a bunch of their personal brainworms into the publicly accessible code.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 39 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

This seems like something 90% of people would oppose, which I guess is why they're hiding it. Not difficult to message admins of any tesseract using instances and inform them though, most will migrate to something else because admins choosing to run decentralised communities don't tend to like the thought of a developer sticking their nose in and meddling at the software level.

Good way to kill your project tbh.

Interesting that he has a secret unmodifiable blacklist for leftist and/or queer instances (blahaj is also on there), and also a Star Trek pic on his github file...

Also, couldn't someone just fork it and remove the blacklist? Just name it free-tesseract or something so that people have a better option and his efforts are negated.

[-] ziggurter@hexbear.net 7 points 9 hours ago

couldn't someone just fork it and remove the blacklist?

Might be better to keep the list, but have the frontend tag each user and instance on it as "Blessed by the Reactionary Tesseract Devs" or something instead of censoring them. LOL.

[-] A404@lemmy.dbzer0.com 35 points 18 hours ago
[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 7 hours ago

LMAO will be hilarious if the fork gets more popular

[-] mynameisbob@lemmy.ml 10 points 14 hours ago

Now that individuals are all grouped together? Even in code base? hmmmmm

[-] Cowbee@hexbear.net 26 points 19 hours ago

These projects all die off when they cut off such significant portions of the userbase.

[-] Feed_el_Castro@hexbear.net 33 points 20 hours ago

Kinda a thing on Voyager too, hexbear isn't on the instances list and only lets you login/create account if you explicitly type hexbear.net

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 31 points 20 hours ago

What's even left (heh) at that point? Just reddit.world and beehaw? I don't even know if beehaw exists anymore, tbh.

[-] pleiades@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 hours ago

I see beehaw users' comments occasionally, they're always getting downvoted and not following their own rule (bee nice)

[-] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 32 points 20 hours ago

They blocked lemmy.ml too lol, the main instance run by the developers.

[-] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 22 points 19 hours ago

Crazy how this weirdos keep doing that.

[-] pongo1231@hexbear.net 31 points 20 hours ago

export const EXTREMIST_COMMUNITIES:string[] = []

[-] Budwig_v_1337hoven@hexbear.net 18 points 19 hours ago

Did shrekland expire? Shoulda kept it around just for this, it's not on the list
