Db0 discovering the blocklist https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/72685299

Someone pointed out that the developer of the frontend added an explicit hidden and unmodifiably blacklist which includes any and all instances to the left of Kissinger.

EDIT the repository has moved so all previous links are broken unless you update the root of the URL to https://github.com/paulo-roger/tesseract

Lol, you have to look at the commit history: https://github.com/paulo-roger/tesseract/commit/84c1b14c0606b6659d42faf3f47ff5705e2a0072

Shadow banning users, blocking archive sites, it's a gold mine of liberal authoritarian brain worms.

I'm just now realizing the user shadow bans have reasons, and some of them are so petty!

Wait, why is !cybersecurity@sh.itjust.works an extremist community?

Uhoh, we've been embargoed

Why is Infowars not listed under "fake news" HMMM?

Not knowing that the Git blame log exists because it's the end of history is peak liberalism

[-] RedWizard@hexbear.net 33 points 3 weeks ago

The great thing about open source is that ANYONE can review the code themselves! Puts a bunch of their personal brainworms into the publicly accessible code.

I like the inclusion of the non-existent hexbear.com as an embargoed instance. Also does this just like, check for users of the same name on these platforms?

[-] Grapho@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 weeks ago

Embargoed lmao what's with the fed language. Idk what's sadder, cosplaying as an online psy-operative or actually being a fed and not being able to pass for a normal person.

[-] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 54 points 3 weeks ago

Interesting that he has a secret unmodifiable blacklist for leftist and/or queer instances (blahaj is also on there), and also a Star Trek pic on his github file...

Also, couldn't someone just fork it and remove the blacklist? Just name it free-tesseract or something so that people have a better option and his efforts are negated.

[-] A404@lemmy.dbzer0.com 40 points 3 weeks ago
[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 3 weeks ago

LMAO will be hilarious if the fork gets more popular

[-] mynameisbob@lemmy.ml 10 points 3 weeks ago

Now that individuals are all grouped together? Even in code base? hmmmmm

[-] ziggurter@hexbear.net 9 points 3 weeks ago

couldn't someone just fork it and remove the blacklist?

Might be better to keep the list, but have the frontend tag each user and instance on it as "Blessed by the Reactionary Tesseract Devs" or something instead of censoring them. LOL.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 43 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

This seems like something 90% of people would oppose, which I guess is why they're hiding it. Not difficult to message admins of any tesseract using instances and inform them though, most will migrate to something else because admins choosing to run decentralised communities don't tend to like the thought of a developer sticking their nose in and meddling at the software level.

Good way to kill your project tbh.

[-] Feed_el_Castro@hexbear.net 37 points 3 weeks ago

Kinda a thing on Voyager too, hexbear isn't on the instances list and only lets you login/create account if you explicitly type hexbear.net

What's even left (heh) at that point? Just reddit.world and beehaw? I don't even know if beehaw exists anymore, tbh.

[-] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 33 points 3 weeks ago

They blocked lemmy.ml too lol, the main instance run by the developers.

[-] pleiades@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 weeks ago

I see beehaw users' comments occasionally, they're always getting downvoted and not following their own rule (bee nice)

[-] pongo1231@hexbear.net 32 points 3 weeks ago

export const EXTREMIST_COMMUNITIES:string[] = []

[-] Cowbee@hexbear.net 30 points 3 weeks ago

These projects all die off when they cut off such significant portions of the userbase.

[-] haxboar@hexbear.net 28 points 3 weeks ago

Y'all are shit-talking this, but I just found a bunch of new, fun instances to start checking out. Thanks for your bone-headed support, tesseract!

I'm not listed, I gotta up my game

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 13 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

How many more times do I need to post "death to the zionist regime" and "the dogs of capital deserve more 9/11s" to get some recognition around here?

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago

Literally wtf am I doing wrong. I gotta be more provocative

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 11 points 3 weeks ago

Wtf I'm never on the blocklists what am I doing wrong

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 3 weeks ago

What does it say that they can't even keep their blocks together. Or consistent.

And now wondering what they consider advocating violence

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 3 weeks ago

Wait, how is that cm user not in spam or spammers? 🤔

[-] mathemachristian@hexbear.net 3 points 3 weeks ago
[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 3 weeks ago

Didn't they take over a bad instance?

But they've got so many accounts they use to spam

[-] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 23 points 3 weeks ago

Crazy how this weirdos keep doing that.

[-] Budwig_v_1337hoven@hexbear.net 18 points 3 weeks ago

Did shrekland expire? Shoulda kept it around just for this, it's not on the list

[-] muhg@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 3 weeks ago

How do I get on the shit list?

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 7 points 3 weeks ago

Open a PR I guess
