Is Twitter just now finding out pro football players are almost universally complete dumbasses?
post
i was in a meeting kind of zoned out in my brain palace but appearing totally normal & oriented to place... when someone said, "anyone rooting for a world cup team?" and i almost blurted out "Iran" before i remembered i was IRL.
I recently learned that players aren't allowed to cover their mouths during a game because of the frequent instances of players saying racial slurs at one another
It's not just slurs (nowadays it's very rare for players to do that during the game usually it's the fans who say racist shit), players would constatly trash talk the referee and other players. Shit like that already ruined other games in the past, like what happened with Zinédine Zidane and Marco Materazzi during the 2006 World Cup.
All Europeans are Nazis
A little tangential but it's kinda crazy how much anti-Argentina content there is right now. Doesn't feel very organic but I can't guess who would be pushing it, maybe Britain seizing a moment because Argentina being hated is beneficial to getting sympathy over the falklands?
I've noticed it too. I had practically avoided all online discussion pertaining to the World Cup until the final, so I was really taken aback by the amount of hate I saw. Not that they don't deserve it. I've even seen people say that Argentina is the Israel of Latin America. They're not wrong, but it's really surprising.
I don't know if it's artificial though, because from what I can tell, both Argentinian players and fans have essentially been behaving like Pissraelis throughout the entire tournament. That doesn't exactly make you popular. It's been an endless torrent of playing dirty and being unprofessional, hurling slurs, being violent, etc. I saw videos of racist abuse against Ishowspeed, and he's a very popular streamer. He even refused to accept an autographed t-shirt from Messi's wife.
To me it seemed like no one cared about the Falklands stuff except for British chuds who were seething when Argentinian players were holding up Malvinas signs to get a reaction out of them. That even pissed off Piss Morgan.
There was no hate about them until the final. Before it was fine. It literally exploded afterwards.
I think the malvinas sign might have sparked a response from either british intelligence or some right wing orgs.
right wing orgs have spent years boosting argentina and framing stats to try and make milei look successful, i really don't get why they've changed tack during a world cup
Anti-Latin American Racism and Xenophobia is very much popular in places like Spain and Portugal, as much as Right-Wing Argentinians will pretend and swear they are 100% Europeans, they'll still get treated like pure shit by Americans and Europeans.
yeah, on reflection can definitely see how the spanish would take any opportunity to shit on argentina to drive/reestablish european supremacy (and portugal would do the same with brazil)
just seems to conflict with the american project of boosting all the right wing south american states, which especially applied to argentina as they wanted to brute force the weird ancap pedo as successful by any means necessary
There was hate all over football/soccer forums about them before the final.
Hmm, that's really strange then. If they really manufactured it this quickly, then it was frighteningly effective, I must say.
I don't care about football, barely even know the rules, only watched the last 1/3 of the final, and I very much did not like argentina afterwards.
It grew out of Black Twitter, Black Youtube and more prominently Black TikTok as a consequence of the explosion of racist content concerning Black players on FIFA teams
It gained viral motion because of the factoid concerning Argentina genociding all its Black people and because of viral racist actions made by Argentina fans, also the fact there are no Black players on Messi's team, the fact Trump gave them 20 billion dollars, the blatant favoritism displayed by the refs, the fact Argentinians were waving Israeli flags.....
I mean if Argentina was dedicated to generating an organic hate campaign against itself using the World Cup, they did everything possible to make it happen
That racist video Enzo Fernández posted played a part in that.

It didn't start there though, other latin americans were already doing that on social media way before that.

Yes. Though it wasn't just genociding all the black people as in they just killed them, after the 1860s and the fall of Juan Manuel de Rosas and the fall of the Federalists, the Unitarians inspired by the USA and Europe, actively erased the history, culture and contribution of Native Americans, Afro-Argentinians and Women from the country's history (same thing happened in Brazil and Uruguay).
They also did a bunch of revisionism to make the country's first leaders way more racist than what they actually were (Argentina was initially supposed to be a Monarchy ruled by Native Americans, but the rich white buenos aires elite sabotaged that). Most Afro-Argentinians left the country for Brazil or other South American nations due to how bad the Unitarians made the whole country, just a few of them remained (around less than 1%, though it debatable how much people are descedent of Afro-Argentinians but won't admit it).
Theres still a lot of refusal by even some leftists in Argentina (and tbh all of LatAm) to talk about this. Yes, LatAm is not as racist as the USA (we never had segregation for example) but some people just refuse to accept how we still have racism here. At least in more recent years people have been recognizing the contribution of Natives Americans and Afro-Latinos in out culture and history.

It was mostly organic IMO. But some Americans were actively attacking not just Argentinians but also Latin Americans as if we're just one country (???), honestly is pretty dumb and some people who know nothing about LatAm were sayings stuff that doesn't even make sense because they don't understand our history or how culture is here (also a bunch of asshole gusanos were being racist but thats expected from them, they think if they bootlick white people they'll be consider white).
The Argentine team has had a reputation of playing dirty through the years, but they outdid themselves in this year’s final. It was one of the ugliest games I have ever seen, and a lot of casual fans likely got very turned off by it. People who like entertaining sporting events, let alone people who like soccer, are infuriated.
Combine that with how badly Egypt got screwed over by the referees when they played Argentina (and Argentina fans waved Israeli flags at Egypt’s team). And overall it looked like FIFA, who are corrupt but also outdid themselves this year, was favoring Argentina in the tournament. That pissed off fans of the sport.
And combine that with public well wishes for the team from Netanyahu and Ben Gvir, which likely turned most of the world’s non-genocidal, casual fans against Argentina, and anyway, it’s organic. Media are following, not leading this one.
Most Latinos just wanted to make fun of Argentina and "support" Spain because of how unbearable it would be if Argentina won again. Most Right-Wing Argentinians like Milei hate football and probably doesn't even give a shit that Argentina lost. It doesn't help that out of nowhere Israel comes to support Argentina because they are buddies with Milel, most people in LatAm fucking hate Israel. Also a bunch of racist Argetinian assholes were attacking random African-American, African and Afro-Latino people by shouting slurs and dumb shit, they even attacked the Streamer Ishowspeed (it wasn't dumb sport thing, these people were just being racist).
Doesn't feel very organic but I can't guess who would be pushing it, maybe Britain seizing a moment because Argentina being hated is beneficial to getting sympathy over the falklands?
Afaik only Europeans (specially British People) give a shit about the Islands. Most of the Global South usually side with Argentina in this issue.
i wonder how many brits actually care about the falklands outside of chuds? a coworker saying they'll watch england v argentina didn't mention the falklands once
No one gives a shit. The only time it matters to anyone is when they want to bash the argies about it or when they're jacking themselves off about how "WE USED TO BE AN EMPIREEEEE RAAAAAAAAAGGHH" bullshit nationalism.
The usual "but the islanders want to be british" argument comes out but nobody applies that consistently, if they did then they would say the same about Crimeans wanting to be Russian.
arent most people on the islands of british descent anyways? no shit the people colonizing the land dont want to give it up
Friendly reminder that Pedro Sanchez thanked Moroccan and Spanish security forces what they did in the 2022 Melilla incident
spoiler
which ended up killing 23 immigrants, injure 140, and make 70 missing, the footage from it showed security forces literally beating African immigrants who were on the ground with batons.
this is the consequence of pro-sportsball revisionism. Retvrn to hating all sports
The only moral cheering is for African teams.
Cape Verde should've won unironically
Feeling perfectly ok with not having watched a bit of the WC, and also having no clue who any of these clowns are.
I misunderstood this image as wearing the hat as a joke making fun of the us
Wait, you’re telling me the country that ate up Franco has fascists in it?
Was there a Polymarket bet if he'd wear a MSGA hat
I can't believe people bought that narrative. There was no contradiction in supporting Argentine against Spain, of all opponents smh.
Ferran thanked God and said the goal and win was destined lmao, he's a reactionary alright
