Roland Boer, Marxist scholar and theologian, has written a number of books on the intersections of political ideology and Christianity. I can't speak to these books personally but his book on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics seems to be well recieved.

Parenti wrote God and His Demons, so that could be worth a look. I haven't read it so I don't know if it's any good though.
