Trump has no idea what he's talking about, but it is a serious issue if these voting machines are still in-use.

A voting machine should be a dumb embedded system. If it can run doom, they did something very, very wrong.

You can run Doom on some DSLRs. These days, it can be hard to find bottom-end hardware that can't be made to run Doom.

yeah, I looked it up-- you need 4 MB of ram and a 80386 processor to run doom, which was released in 1993. A crummy pixel phone processor is about 3500 times faster than a 80386. And a low end computer today has at least 8 gb of memory, which is 2000 times 4 mb.

This cheapo TI-30XA calculator for $9.99 on amazon has roughly the same MIPS rating (million of instructions per second) as a 80386 processor from that era.

I'm not shocked that a voting machine has the same capability as a $9.99 calculator. Its probably the cheapest processor they can find.

Sure, and DSLRs aren't voting machines.

Imagine running doom on pen and paper

[-] jve@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

My carpel tunnel acted up when I read this.

[-] bravesilvernest@lemmy.ml 47 points 1 day ago

"These things can run Doom!!" is not the example of vulnerability I was expecting lol

[-] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

I'm honestly surprised that Trump even knows what Doom is.

[-] yesman@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago

This is the most amazing hack of all time. Don't you see? They got Doom to run in Trump's head.

That implies that Trump has a functional brain.

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

I doubt that Trump's brain has the computing power to run DOOM.

[-] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 day ago

It's actually Obama playing Doom.

[-] Sabata11792@ani.social 3 points 1 day ago

I know they got briancells in a dish to play it, but I didn't thinly they could do it without the cells.

Shut the fuck up you dumb nazi pedo, eat gravel and shut the fuck up

[-] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

He's scared that the Republicans are going to get swept in November and is desperately searching for a reason/way to block or cancel them.

This seems like a joke but what is happening is fucking dangerous. The more desperate they get the more deadly the outcome.

[-] chahn.chris@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

This should be the only response to anything he says at this point.

[-] Asafum@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

"we cant trust the electronic voting machines! Immigrants stuff paper ballots! You're not allowed to mail in vote!"

...sooooooooo how do we vote? Oh we just don't and you decide who won I guess? That seems to be the goal.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

…sooooooooo how do we vote

Before you get the answer, what color skin do you have?

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

This is just one of those challenges where someone can see if it runs Doom, right?

[-] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yes, and to be fair it is a security breach. Sure there are memes. I’ve booted Doom on some stupid things in the past, just to see if I could. But national security isn’t the place for memes. If someone has managed to boot Doom on one of these, it means they accessed it with some sort of storage that was previously plugged into an external system.

A dirty USB drive breaks any kind of air gaps that may have been implemented for security. Computers in secure military facilities are actually configured to instantly bluescreen whenever anyone plugs an unapproved device into them, (and you’ll quickly be surrounded by very grumpy soldiers who will not-so-gently “escort” you to your boss’ office before you get court martialed). The forced kernel panic (blue screen) is specifically to prevent a rogue device from accessing anything on the affected machine.

[-] quick_snail@feddit.nl 2 points 20 hours ago

Also this should be a very dumb embedded system. It should not be a general purpose computer capable of running something like Doom.

[-] quick_snail@feddit.nl 1 points 20 hours ago

To be fair, if your election system can run doom, its probably a very bad design.

See xkcd about installing antivirus on a voting machine, compared to a elementary school teacher wearing a condom "just in case"

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 day ago

This is so fucking funny.

I’ve been watching friends play Doom on any number of devices, including calculators and flippers and such, for decades.

I only trust voting machines that can run Crysis

No more Nazis!

This statement made some people very, very upset before Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus came out for some reason ...

Trump’s latest case centered on questionable intelligence

Ayup.

[-] BeUnique@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago

Okay so what he's saying is both times he was elected, it was wrong? Just saying, if there's some ability to do this, and there's some conspiracy here, why did he win twice?

[-] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No, quite the opposite.

He’s saying that his win in 2016 was fair, because Obama ran a fair election.

But his loss in 2020 was unfair because he was in charge at the time. He was super corrupt and ran a corrupt election, so his loss was invalid.

And then in 2024, Biden had managed to repair things and ran another fair election, so Trump’s 2024 win is valid.

But now that 2026 is on the horizon, he’s now saying that his corruption will prevent another fair election, so when congress flips it will be invalid.

[-] NABDad@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

He's also saying that it's his fault: he was in charge when the election was supposedly stolen. He won when Obama was running things, then again when Biden was. According to him, the election was stolen while he was running the government.
