Guess the game (#008) (thelemmy.club)
submitted 2 weeks ago by 64bithero@lemmy.world to c/games@lemmy.world

Sorry everyone life has really gotten in the way as of late. Hopefully this calm down soon and I can do these more frequently again.

As always the game has had an US release.

I’ll release the answer if no one answers. Please refrain from using image search

Can you guess the game ?

I knew it. I played it rather extensively.

[-] chunes@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Even if you didn't know what it was, you could narrow down the release date to the mid 90s just from the scrollbar.

Damn, i was too slow to see the post lol I loved playing Simtower :-)

[-] Anahkiasen@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

That game was so good but fuck I never managed to win 😭

[-] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago

Before you get too far, get yourself Yoot Tower. It's same game just with a lot of improvements and fixes. Yoot Saito is a legend.

Don't need to guess. It took me many years to realize elevator shafts could hold more than one elevator car.

[-] stoy@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 weeks ago

I don't need to guess, I know it is Sim Tower

[-] davad@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Same. I saw the picture before reading the title and immediately thought, "Cool! Someone's playing SimTower! I haven't seen that game in ages!"

[-] madmantis24@lemmy.wtf 12 points 2 weeks ago

Great, now I'm hearing that loop of elevator dings and office chatter!

[-] fleem@piefed.zeromedia.vip 5 points 2 weeks ago

[-] kibblebits@quokk.au 9 points 2 weeks ago

I played that new in the box :|

I used to love this game as a kid. Tried to return to it a few years later though and found it was one of those 'game speed = cpu speed' setups which was unplayably fast on my new 800mhz machine. I should track down an emulator for it...

[-] DickFiasco@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

Too bad you didn't have a turbo button.

[-] roundabout@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago

Ah SimTower is so fun lol I played it in the browser a few weeks back just to experience it again. Those sim games are always a blast, I’ll have to go back to Simcity and SimCopter sometime

[-] Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago

Loved this game as a kid. What's the best modern version?

[-] 64bithero@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Project Highrise or the direct sequel to this Yoot Tower. But PH is far easier to run

[-] Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

I actually had it on steam already from humble bundle I think so tried it out. Seems good i just did a few tutorial missions

[-] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

There is also "Mad Tower Tycoon", which is pretty similar.

[-] arran4@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

I can still hear it

[-] sam_the_tech@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I was gonna guess something to do with King Kong. Hope life gets out of your way sooner than later!

[-] farmgineer@nord.pub 4 points 2 weeks ago

I never played it, but I saw a video of it (LGR, I think?)

[-] Lenny@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

Brings me back to middle school where our Shop (machines/wood) teacher had these installed on the like 2 class computers.

IIRC I think this is the game where you can dig (?) or maybe scroll down towards the bottom left corner and there was some kind of secret buried at the bottom of the map. It’s all a bit fuzzy now.

I got this game on a 3-in-1 CD, bundled with Sim Isle and the OG Sim City. I already had Sim City, but it was a much older floppy release that, I think, was only in black and white. The Sim City on the CD was in color and came with some extra scenarios and tile sets.

[-] Wolfizen@pawb.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

Project Highrise is very similar! And its a bit newer.

[-] xia@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

I recall hearing that that this game was originally an elevator algorithm simulator, and that if you right-click in an elevator pit, you can fiddle with the algo.

[-] Seigest@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

All I remember from this is my brother's advice to never build condos. Not sure how true it was.

[-] rodneylives@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yoot Saito also directed the wonder feudal japanese wargame/pinball simulation with microphone support Odama. I still have my copy and mic!

[-] vogi@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

Never saw it before. My best guess would have been that one fun flash game on armorgames where you build a office complex with workers inside pushing buttons. Which name I have also sadly forgot. :(

[-] Hoimo@ani.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

Corporation Inc. Immediately thought of that as well. I don't know what magic ArmorGames pulled to keep these playable, but here: https://armorgames.com/play/7348/corporation-inc

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Oh man! I actually knew this one, but I was too late.

Keep it up! I'll get it one of these days.

[-] Dagnet@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I loved that game, very simple but so much fun
