There's a "great man" aspect to this conspiracy theory, just as with the HAARP conspiracy theory. They believe that one man, Bill Gates perhaps, or one facility, can cause these widespread climate effects. But they also believe that humans pumping billions of tons of CO2 can't, because that requires materialist analysis.

Obviously some of this is rooted in petrochemical propaganda but that propaganda really ties into the mental bedrock that already existed. Americans are primed to believe myths with the "correct" structure.

It's also interesting how all of the Epstein fury has stuck to Gates, while washing off Trump.

You see a mélange of all this sentiment in comment sections about ticks.

The whole "put it all on Bill Gates" thing is a good example of what I'm talking about with regards to not being able to discuss conspiracy theory on leftist forums. You end up with that shit.

This argument starts out with people talking about chronic Lyme disease, which is 100% fake, but invariably boils down to "THE GOVERNMENT INVENTED ALPHA-GAL SYNDROME TO MAKE EVERYONE VEGAN (GAY)"

What is true is that these very same conspiracist organizations were the ones responsible for getting LYMErix, a highly effective vaccine for Lyme disease, removed from the market 25 years ago. The new candidate vaccine only affects about 2% of the Barellia serotypes that can cause Lyme, though these are the 2% that are most common in Europe and North America. This was not true of LYMErix which worked by preventing the mechanism by which the bacteria would enter your body, meaning it was effective against all Barellia serotypes.

Lyme disease is an auto-immune disorder triggered by Barellia burgdorferi, one of a few species of bacteria that live in ticks and cause health issues in humans and other mammals. Some people experience the new onset of symptoms identical and indistinguishable from ME/CFS after a tick bite, though this may instead be related to a common co-infection with Babesia or Bartonella bacteria also carried by ticks. Though people like to describe it as chronic Lyme, sufferers are no longer infected with Lyme disease so it seems to be an autoimmune or inflammatory disorder which is triggered by exposure to these bacteria.

Also of note is that Alpha-Gal Syndrome is an allergy spread by the Lone Star tick which is not a major vector for Lyme, they're essentially mutually exclusive. If for some reason you innocculated people with non-primate protein samples from cows or pigs, you could induce the same allergy. The government didn't create Alpha-Gal Syndrome, it is the direct fault of industrial animal agriculture in the southeastern US. If you're looking for someone to blame for AGS, it's ranchers.

I gotta be honest, I saw internetcommentetiquettes video on it and since it shat on fort Detrick thats all I needed. The thing rests on that as well as Willy Burgdorfer doing biowarfare research for the US government.

What is true is that these very same conspiracist organizations were the ones responsible for getting LYMErix, a highly effective vaccine for Lyme disease, removed from the market 25 years ago.

Shit like this is why I want a conspiracy comm. When you leave the space open and refuse to engage with all the actual probable shit (like fort Detrick) then it gets taken over by reactionairies and functions as a recruiting space with little resistance.

[-] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

So you want to have a conspiracy comm so that we can just shut down all the unfounded reactionary takes?

So, sort of like c/hentai where we only remove the bad hornyposting and keep the good?

Yes.

Id like to have a conspiracy comm so we can actually discuss conspiracies. When this website started Epstein was still mildly taboo. Covid being a us bioweapon likewise, despite there being all sorts of weird shit. I'd come with more examples, but Im tired.
For a long time most discussions of things of that caliber is, at best, frowned upon in leftist circles. This then leads to the only circles allowing discussion being really reactionairy ones. This leads to reactionairy thought being more prevalent when a conspiracy breaks into the mainstream, because that is where the narrative has been resting. It also leads to people ending up in reactionary environments if they want to look into weird shit. It then leads to weird shit that isn't really supported becoming prevalent, which then takes away from actual systemic critique, good journalism, investigative work and the like. A good example is the Last Vegas Shooting, which had a lot of weird things going on, but because of how taboo discussions of that caliber are, most "conspiracy" discussions about the shooting end up at it being a false flag done by commie democrats to get more gun control.

Lot of words to say: when people in charge do shady shit, me want discuss. When me cant discuss in place with good moderation, me end up in place full of Nazis that day the jews did it.

It's important to remember the distinction between conspiracy, an act of covert collusion, and conspiracy theory, the free association and riffing upon inconsistencies, real or perceived.

I think that conspiracy theories are in the same bucket as paranormal or religious stuff. These are people looking for explanations to things they can't, don't, or won't understand. They grasp at straws and then double down based on faith especially when their beliefs are contradictory to reality.

Communists lean on materialism, that is the real, as our primary philosophy for explaining the world around us. This is inherently contradictory to unfounded faith. What I mean is that the process by which conspiracy theories are created is inherently in opposition to the way that Marxists seek to explain the world.

Rather than gravitating to the process of hallucinating a narrative to justify your pre-existing beliefs and worldview, a good Marxist should instead seek to analyze and explain the "weird stuff" by doing actual investigative work firsthand and then doing good journalism yourself.

It's important to remember the distinction between conspiracy, an act of covert collusion, and conspiracy theory, the free association and riffing upon inconsistencies, real or perceived.

That is a distinction you make to separate yourself from a group of people you dislike. This distinction is however meaningless in the broad view of the public. As I said: speak of these subjects and you will be breaking a taboo, no matter how "proper" or whatever you are about it. Talk about project Northwoods or how Uyghurs extremists were funded by the US in the late 00's or the many many details surrounding the destruction of Nord Stream 2 and you will be labeled a conspiracy theorist. This taboo also exists on hexbear, despite these things not being 'hallucinations', they will get you treated as a reactionairy or doofis. Saying I hallucinate these things is incredibly rude and a good example of what I talk about with taboo.

Breadtube if it didn't suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.
