Unfortunately, the emergency response team was fired in February.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 42 points 2 months ago

Yeah. With this budget it's two guys waving a placard on the on-ramp.

[-] wildncrazyguy138@fedia.io 21 points 2 months ago

But you can sleep soundly knowing that your taxes are $0.50 ~~less~~ more this year.

[-] lennybird@lemmy.world 23 points 2 months ago

Ah they're just nostalgic for when they threw out the pandemic response plan Obama made prior to covid.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 9 points 2 months ago

rfk jr only wants the worms to invade.

[-] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 65 points 2 months ago

I honestly didn't think we had a CDC anymore

[-] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 57 points 2 months ago

It’s just one guy with a bucket of horse paste and unpasteurized milk.

[-] Dultas@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

The horse paste is dewormer right. So it has to work /s

[-] FaceDeer@fedia.io 27 points 2 months ago

Ironically, It does work in this case. Ivermectin is an antiparasitic, not just a dewormer. It kills screwworm larvae and is being authorized as a treatment for real here.

Just another "what are the writers going to think of next" element to throw into this crazy timeline.

[-] mlg@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Its gonna be a 180 on Ivermectin and they'll switch to bleach lol

[-] FaceDeer@fedia.io 9 points 2 months ago

Maybe we can convince them that COVID vaccination does the trick.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 6 points 2 months ago

probably slow the spread but it likely wont stop it in its tracks. since they dont have a sterile fly facility up and running yet.

[-] rayyy@piefed.social 1 points 2 months ago

Gunna git me a barrel of the stuf at tractor supply. Jist in case.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

it still exist, so rfk jr can peddle pseudoscience/alternative care to children, whom he has an obsession with.

The name "screwworm" is really offensive. He's a member of the Kennedy family, after all.

[-] MrNesser@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

It's more of a descriptive as in

We are screwed

[-] fullsquare@awful.systems 48 points 2 months ago

oh now it's emergency, not when the working containment plan was shitcanned and failed shortly after

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 months ago

Measles are back, screw worm is back, just like the conservatives promised, we're back to how things were in the 1950s

Yes, but they now serve fried chicken.

[-] Zink@programming.dev 4 points 2 months ago

We finally have the Centers for Delicious Chicken?

[-] massacre@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

11 herbs and ground racoon penis powders!

[-] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

Human infestations are rare

Yeah, because we had this shit under control. Human infections were much more common before screwworm was being tracked, the US was releasing sterile flies, and the US realized that flies don’t give a shit about your borders, so you need to treat all of North America.

[-] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 months ago

Feed Elon to the worms

[-] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago

Trump Worms

[-] nullspace@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

This was preventable, but US healthcare is only reactionary.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today -2 points 1 month ago

i dont think this involves humans, only other animals.

[-] frunch@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Know what'll fix this? More tariffs

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 months ago

Did you say bring back DOGE and BigBalls?

[-] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Has RFKjr told the CDC that they need to promote Ivermectin as a treatment for screwworms?

[-] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Oh no, what are we going to do with the consequences of our choices? Screw it...

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago

man this is so annoying. actions like these there is no getting back to where we were. Stopping the vaccinations down south is a genie we can't get back into the bottle.

[-] qaz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Didn't DOGE cut the budget to control these things?
