An argentinean friend of mine, was complaining about the lack of gas oil in gas stations on Argentina and said "we're literally Venezuela!!" and I was like my dude, if Venezuela have problems, lack of gas oil is not one of them, you cannot use Venezuela as an example for everything you don't like.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Didn't Venezuela have oil shortages due to all the refineries being located outside the country?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

Entirely possible since it's the oil cartels that tend to maintain a monopoly on the means of production for petroleum products.

Also fun fact Alaska is similar to Venezuela in the fact that we rely on our oil reserves to the point our economy crashes when oil prices crash, and we have to ship our oil out to get it refined.

Latest bullshit job: “AI Prompt Engineer”

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Guy sitting at computer in expensive open plan office getting frustrated that the AI won't do what he wants with a specter of Xi jinping standing over his shoulder photorealistic hyper real wide angle lens film grain marvel boobs

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Smh, Xi jinping has been censored. At least he looks like he likes marvel and has boobs

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

To be fair, it was a “specter” of Xi — can you see a ghost?

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is unironically becoming a real job, for sure.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

that'll be one of the first that ai will take over

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 year ago

Art thieves were a lot cooler when they were suction cup crawling down walls and shit

[–] [email protected] 56 points 1 year ago

TFW you don't own means of production and become the most wretched of commodities

[–] [email protected] 52 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I know a few graphic designers and they're STRUGGLING for work right now. It's horrible out there for them. They're available! They will absolutely make great graphics! But yeah you do kinda have to pay them and capitalists hate paying people so here we are

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean I'm presuming they're paying this guy, it's just apparently to argue with a computer a lot.

This is what "technology = good" gets you in the end. You pay a guy to argue with a computer for no discernible reason when you could just pay some guy to do thing, and it's all because technology is understood as magic better thing instead of, you know, what it is, and it AI is fucking terrible at concept art as @thisonethatone points out

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

also there could even be a middle ground if the issue is adjustments a graphic designer could make the adjustments

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As someone who has commissioned artwork and who has tried out the AI """art""" generators... it doesn't even begin to compare. The only way I can possibly imagine someone thinking an AI """art""" generator could replace real artists is if they've never ever worked with any artist ever.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

That’s why you get the CIA to fund postmodern art for decades so you can reduce “art” to something easily replaced by “AI”

[–] [email protected] 36 points 1 year ago (1 children)

fuck-around

Idk if I'm even totally against this guy, because what he's complaining about is the same thing that makes YouTube copywrite strikes so annoying.

Not like the stuff getting censored is indie creative stuff on DeviantArt. This is guaranteed "You can't use a keyword that might upset Disney" tier censorship.

It's classic enshittification, either way.

AI generated art fucks me up, because something like this can occur on a whim. 10 years ago if i saw this, i would be like, "wow, what drove a talented artist to go through all the trouble to render this detailed vision?"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It can at least be created on a whim now. There was still process involved between a group of people and working with the tool itself. It probably doesn't look anything like the process involved in what you're describing though, more like an ongoing conversation amongst allies critiquing implementations of censorship for corporate interests. Lol, for example, the first rendering involved the bear holding a bowl of chocolate pudding too. The only way it would render the image without the bear also holding a bowl of pudding was if it was a magic bear hovering over it's own bowl. xD So potentially less of a profound process than I imagine digital artists 10 years ago were using... but idk. ¯\(ツ)

Hexbear meet up

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is this... winnie the pooh?

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago

Lol, just fighting the censorship. Apparently, things pooping is too vulgar, but magically floating above a bowl of chocolate pudding isn't. :D The bear was just what the group I was talking to was using as a subject and wasn't meant as a reference to anything. I think it was along the lines of trying to get it to generate "a bear shitting in the woods"

When communists do something bad, it's communism!

When capitalists do something bad, it's communism!

Communism shit my pants

[–] [email protected] 34 points 1 year ago

It's gotten to the point where any time I see someone whining about censorship i immediately tune out

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Please tell me someone recommended paying an actual human artist to this guy

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Not Innovative^TM^ enough

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 year ago (1 children)

this tendency to monopoly sure is communist of capitalism

He is learning the hard way that AI is terrible for concept art.

AI can only create things that are a mash up of already available ideas, but if you want to create something new and specific to a vision it with turnarounds/details no, it's not going to do it. It is incapable of making small adjustments specific to a vision.

I like to use AI when working on my art specifically as an idea and reference generator. The AI can act as a fun way to jog the brain and come up with new ideas- but I have never been able to get it to give me exactly what I'm looking for.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I want an AI that can intake like 10 drawn pictures of people and then animate an entire cartoon movie. I feel like this is a pretty doable thing tbh

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Blaming something on China on reddit-logo is like jingling keys in front of a baby

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago
[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I also spend hours arguing with the AI

Imagine arguing with a bunch of if...then statements.... Ted was right.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

That still leaves open the interpretation that the human mind also is a bunch of if...then statements. Better to point out how it’s not really “intelligence” but closer to a sentiment analyzer with a lot of data

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

They need to fucking ban commercial use of AI art

it'll come for the musicians next

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

it's coming one way or the other.. we need to remove the barrier to living without producing gadgets or licensing and just let art be free

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Good. Fuck this guy. Fuck AI art.

white people twisting and bending the english language in real-time in order to retcon more words to mean "white people" but upset that their convolution is still limited by 3 dimensions

they got caucasian, semitic, aryan, european, but they just need more yknow? Any suggestions? Maybe we can make the Native American one a thing again? For some reason they stopped using it after 1890
