I’ve been thinking more about that quote, and realizing I like characters in media that exemplify it.
People who don’t just say “I don’t want to fight” to look humble, but because they view any battle as a tragedy of destruction - but could still wipe the floor with anyone.
So often, the “big stick” part of the quote is viewed with importance and finality, when the beginning about walking (edit correction: speaking) softly is perhaps more important.
