I don't make cornbread very often, but I sing this song every time I do. It's to the tune of "Convoy".

🎶 I made a great big cornbread, rockin' through the night.
Yeah, I made a great big cornbread, ain't she a beautiful sight?
I'm gonna eat this cornbread, nothing's gonna get in my way.
I'm gonna eat this truckin' cornbread across the USA.
Cornbread....
...
Cornbread.

Cornbread is corn cake. Fight me.

[-] scutiger@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

It's definitely cake. There's nothing bready about it.

[-] ptz@dubvee.org 3 points 5 days ago

Totally is.

I was out of honey, so I cut off a big slice and "frosted" it with butter and ate it like the cake it is.

I was looking at my canned goods and thinking "I have 7 quarts of chili left. If I eat it I may never be able to replace it because of the cost of ground beef. I should make cornbread."

[-] ptz@dubvee.org 3 points 5 days ago

I wanted chili but was out so I ended up pairing it with vegetable soup.

[-] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

I have supplies for that.

I make cornbread all the time, and would never consider cooking it in anything other than a cast iron. Does your recipe call for pre-heating the pan?

[-] scutiger@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

I've never preheated the pan. What would it change?

[-] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Same. I never preheat the cast iron.
