Former character actor Peter Coyote joins Will to talk about his new book Smothered by Riches, a polemic on the collapse of the New Deal consensus and the legacy of the Powell memo. He and Will talk about the history of neoliberalism from the Chicago boys to Bill Clinton, Peter’s decades-long political life including time in an Anarchist theater troupe, and a bit of Zen Buddhism for good measure.

A really interesting interview with a 1960s student activist

It's such a bad era for counterculture. At least in the 2000s-2010s I had enough subcultures to choose from that I only internalised edgelord shit and millennial irony as negative influences. The 1950s-80s US would have been suffocating. They all came out of it a little bit hippie and a little bit postmodernist and a little bit civility fetishist and a little bit narrowly focused on one isolated issue.

*who also doesn't consider himself an activist because he synthesised his theory of praxis with his Buddhism in a really neat way.
