Yeah, the community is not as left-wing as Hexbear, no shti, it's le Reddit dot com.

I find scraping a left-wing community for takes with single digit upvotes, and posting them for sneering and criticism from a distance to be somewhat distasteful. There is obviously no interest in using this as an educational opportunity (which that subreddit is prime for, among others) since there are no links are in the post.

I particularly find this post out of place on Hexbear which is descended from very similar community where many of us would have posted similar takes 6+ years ago before we developed our analysis further.

Every time I'm reading one of these posts I remind myself there's a very good chance a child made the silly comment, then I move on.

You're right, the sneering is reactionary. Thank you for helping me self-crit, comrade.

I’d be willing to look past his military service if he was running on a message of that service lead him to realize the American military machine is a force for ill and that he’ll fight to reign it in. But he hasn’t, it’s just been “greatest military in the world, we just need to get the right people running it” milquetoast critique.

And quite frankly, this instinct by baby leftists to dick ride any slightly left of center candidate that gains some traction reeks of desperation. I don’t care what the context is, having a fascist tattoo is just plain bad optics, especially when anti-fascism is a core reason presented for why politics needs to shift left.

yeah if Chelsea wanted to run for something we'd be mostly fine with it but this nazi piece of shit reupped with a different branch, was a blackwater merc because he didn't do enough warcrimes in the regular service, and got a state department job.

any two of those things should be more than disqualifying and he has 5+ deep stains.

Tbf I am desperate. If we can't vote our way into some treats for the working class it's going to be socialism or barbarism and that path fucking sucks.

It's going to be socialism, comrade. 💚

Eventually it will be, I agree. But there can be an immense amount of the barbarism for an indeterminate amount of time before we get to the socialism.

Why would they even let you have the treats? What are you going to do them if you don't get them?

Even if the not being involved in torture part is true (we can just assume that, surely blob-no-thoughts ), he bragged about finding a loophole in orders against using artillery (I believe) in a populated city so he could keep blasting. I'm pretty strongly inclined to call that a warcrime if even the US military found it inhumane. Also, the whole invasion was a crime, so these are 100% Clean Wehrmacht arguments . . .

Iirc the artillery thing was using rifle grenades as improvised mortars after they received orders to halt use of mortars due to excessive civilian casualties. Like, yeah, we can get past someone who served a tour IF they understand what that means and are appropriately repentant, people quite rightly point out that veterans can be a very important revolutionary group, but this man absolutely thirsted for civilian blood. I really don't think there is any redemption for him without serious rehabilitation and reeducation. He is a monster and in a civilised society, he would absolutely be made to reckon with that, not be allowed to enjoy immense privilege and run for public office.

Iirc, Platner's unit was ordered to stop using mortars in populated areas so instead they used automatic grenade launchers like mortars, rapidly firing multiple grenades in high arcs over the city to try and hit their target.

Was Abu Graib a concentration camp? I thought of it like a war crimes prison, like a Unit 731 without the pretense of science. But as much as you concentrate people you don't like, I feel like the purpose wasn't to separate out a certain type of person as much as it was to torture people who resisted. But I'm asking because if you assume you make an ass out of u and me

And on the subject of being too famous to do crimes - Guantanamo?

I want someone who is going to vote like an actual leftist and his platform indicates he is going to do that

Like what. What "actual leftist" thing is he going to do, alongside the extremely NOT left commitment to increasing military spending and generally enticing more people to join up? Healthcare? Which is only implemented to mollify the masses and make socialists less enticing? People really don't know what it means to be on the left, they are convinced that a liberal welfare state is socialism. Very frustrating. I think it's largely a symptom of capitalist realism.

The united front stuff really loses its legitimacy when the guy they want me to unite behind was a Nazi tattood murderer for the empire until like last week.

These people have unlimited time to find the nuance between horrible and horrendous, doing the math to know which is 'objectively' worse for days at a time, but if they so much as smell a leftist, their brain shits out just the word Tankie.
