Administration official says South Africa is a ‘DEI regime par excellence’ as the White House radically overhauls refugee admission program

Donald Trump’s administration is mulling a plan that would more than double the annual limit for refugee admissions so the government can bring more white South Africans to the U.S.

The proposal follows the administration’s overhauling of the nation’s refugee admissions program to explicitly prioritize Afrikaners, The Independent previously reported.

Trump has already lowered the ceiling for annual admissions from 125,000 people to a record-low 7,500 — shutting off resettlement to thousands of already-vetted refugees who were preparing to start their life in the U.S. — and then limiting those admissions to mostly white South Africans.

This picture needs to be updated, nowadays the line would be between the 2nd and 3rd options

The position of the line is entirely dependent on your net worth.

As a note: many of these ‘refugees’ are fleeing the crumbling apartheid structure they and their forefathers created in a country that was never theirs. These folks have very right-wing ideals, have a lot of money, and will be reliable Republican voters.

Still wonder why this isn’t surprising, or random?

I‘d love to live in a DEI regime par excellence

[-] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 23 points 1 week ago

Keep in mind, this is after a bunch of the first wave of white South African immigrants moved back because the US is a shithole.

[-] CptOblivius@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Ya I was wondering why they are coming here in the first place. Maybe a little improvement in some areas. But really that much to be a refugee? Or even uproot and leave your home?

[-] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 8 points 6 days ago

Grass is always greener. They expected their hate and bigotry to be validated by MAGAts only to find out MAGAts hate immigrants regardless of whether or not the migrant looks like them and shares their values. The conservative idea that refugees get a “free ride” on their tax dollar and are “stealing jobs from real Americans” has been so ingrained by decades of those narratives to vilify legitimate refugees that xenophobes aren’t going to flip overnight. Bigots are gonna bigot, plus the South Africans aren’t getting any love from the section of society that would normally welcome refugees because we know it’s bullshit.

[-] BussyGyatt@feddit.org 14 points 1 week ago

wait, i thought refugees were bad?

Nah, mostly just dark skin.

It’s like the 14 words say: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children,” so we’ll do anything to replenish the whiteys!

Imagine still not grasping that Donald Trump is a racist.

I mean most conservatives know it and that's why they voted for him. But there's some that honestly don't think he is and have other equally stupid reasons they voted for him.

[-] slemptastrophe@piefed.social 13 points 1 week ago

What is the context for this? Why does he keep making exceptions for South Africans specifically? Is this some kind of favor to shitheads like Musk and Thiel? Or is there some other factor I'm not aware of?

[-] Weydemeyer@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I think this is the work of Stephen Miller and Elon Musk - the two white nationalists close to Trump - moreso than anything Trump is initiating or even really cares about.

In the white nationalist world, the “white genocide” narrative is their lodestar.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago

Just plain ol' racism

[-] greendog@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago

I believe it's because most South Africans are white

[-] Eric@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Whites make up less than 10% of SA's population. They are specifically letting in whites do to the "white genocide" narrative the right has been pushing

[-] greendog@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

That's right, I forgot about the white genocide story. Thank you for mentioning

[-] Corvidae@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

They're no longer legally allowed to discriminate in South Africa, therefore white South Africans are victims. Religion played a dual role in SA, on the one hand, to rationalize apartheid, on the other, for liberation and reconciliation. The US seems to have a similar religious division between liberal and conservative sects.

[-] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 3 points 1 week ago

Gotta stuff the racists in here. Its a play to get more power.

[-] slemptastrophe@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago

@notwhoyouthink@lemmy.zip gave a pretty good answer in a comment above https://piefed.social/comment/11085277

[-] QuadDamage@kbin.earth 2 points 1 week ago

Throwing a bone to a minority within his base, and even then some South African refugees have actually left the US recently.

[-] randamumaki@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 week ago

This reads like a @notheonion post.

[-] Elilol@fedinsfw.app 5 points 1 week ago

WHITE south africans... for real? gonna hoard apartheid descendants?

[-] Chivera@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

America first

[-] 1984@lemmy.today 4 points 1 week ago

Lets just skip to how this profits Trump because thats all he cares about.

If they say South Africa discriminates against whiny white colonial descendants, isn't that the opposite of DEI? Wouldn't their fantasy version of DEI force the government to include the whites in more places simply because they are minorities?

[-] unitedwithme@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

So, birthrate drops, just funnel in more people who don't know America's corruption, and now jobs markets are fucked with over-crowding while the billionaire class gets more bodies to leech off of. Great plan.
