And this is the beauty of a decentralized fediverse. The downside to all of this though is this is probably going to some people pernamently leaving. This is like the 3rd time recently world and other major instances have gotten tackled by bad actors.

Can't ddos all the instances.

If lemmy.world is being Ddosed it's not obvious. The site loads quickly for me lemmy.ml isn't loading. The rest of the comment do make a good point that being on multiple instances helps spread the load and makes Lemmy as a whole hard to affect. And having alternate accounts is definitely a good idea

In all seriousness, this is why I didn't main on world as well. Spreading things out is kind of the whole point.

sh.itjust.works is still pretty high up there in popularity, I could see that being the next major target.

Yeah, theres already been spam and trolls, wouldnt be surprised if they had us in their sights

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Tbf there's spam and trolls everywhere, but I think the DDoS thing is maybe just working down the list of popular instances. However this has probably been obfuscated somewhat, since bot-filled instances have jumped up the tables in terms of number of users.

Do we have any idea why people are attacking though? Aside from anarchists and Reddit revenge...

Twats gonna twat!

I feel old. Because this all just feels like back in the early days of being online.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

what’s happening? i couldn’t use lemmy.world for a while there

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Ddos'd

Hopefully now people will realize spreading out is the entire point of decentralization.

AO3 recently had a DDOS attack that ended, do you think it's the same people? 😂

How do you spread out? I'm a noob and don't really understand Federated servers. I just downloaded Liftoff and logged on

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Make a new account on a different instance and use that instead.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Find a back-up instance and sign up for it. I personally use Lemmy.world and Lemm.ee for mine.

Go into Liftoff, Accounts, Add Account, give it the Instance url, sign in. You can now freely hop from account to account. World down? I go to my .ee NakariLexfortaine.

This is so fucked up lol

Would a butter knife be a good choice?

The trick is to always be prepared...

Edit: I was going to say and always have alternate accounts from my alt account but this comment isn't showing up there lol. Seems Lemmy World is still having server struggles.

Edit 2: For all fellow Lemmy World users, it seems federation is pretty broken right now. No comments are going through.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

...And always have alternate accounts! Finally!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

...and always have alternate accounts.

There ya go.

I was on lemmy.world but now moved to aussie.zone and the performance is better than reddit. Never crashes, feels snappy. I recommend people to move to aussie.zone

What happened? Lemmy world being down totally put a damper on my morning!
