Yeah, they're not removing AI at all. The headline is very misleading, probably by design.

The core AI functionality is staying exactly the way it is. Microslop is only changing or removing the visible in-your-face evidence of it, like the logo, branding, and "entry points" according to the blog. So the Copilot button is coming off Notepad, but that doesn't mean the AI is gone from the app itself, much less the OS.

So if the slop of Micro has you running for the penguin, don't slow down now. They've simply learned their lesson about not letting the masses see what they're doing; they're nowhere near ditching AI.

And the absolute proof of this is that beyond the subtle absence of any explicit statements indicating removal of AI from the OS, the hardware requirements for running 11 have not changed, and the partnerships with hardware suppliers to continue to make and sell AI-ready machines according to those vastly elevated specs are still in full force.

With untold billions of dollars and years of planning and international political lobbying thrown at shit like Recall and building data centers and placing so much of their business strategy and focus on gathering and reselling all the data they can hoover up from the unwary, not just to data brokers but to entire governments in support of universal surveillance states and genocide, business will continue unchanged.

The sole difference is that you'll feel safer while they do it because you won't have the visible symbols of it in your face.

"It's so much harder and more expensive for us to slurp up your private data and sell it back to you as slop when you're all paying attention, goddammit. Go back to sleep." -- Pavan Davuluri, probably

Reading the article, they didn't remove it from notepad, they just gave it a less obtrusive icon.

Too little; too mother fucking, cock sucking, AI slop deep dicking, update cluster fucking, late...

Edit: I use Linux by the way ;)

Too soon, actually. I was hoping they'd keep pushing and drive more Linux adoption before giving up on this shit.

Oh dude, I bailed after spending about six months with a win11 laptop. Couldn't Debian that bitch fast enough.

I installed bazzite on my desktop a few months ago, thinking it'll be a try-it-out thing. Haven't booted into windows since the installer finished...

Someday you’ll have to tell us how you really feel 🤣

Lol, I'm old enough to remember windows 3.1

I've given M$ an absolutely stupid amount of rope, shame they used it to hang us all with it...

Why remove anything? I think they should octuple down. Each click and keystroke should create a new instance of copilot.

All keys are now copilot keys! Feels surprisingly inline with the rest of Microsoft marketing.

What, were they waiting for me? I just put CachyOS on yet another computer (which I won my wife over by making a custom theme in KDE Plasma, hehe). We're not going back even if Copilots fully gone, it's just not a good OS.

They looked at the numbers and what they saw must have been horrifying.

There is nothing they can do at this stage to earn back my trust, Linux is my digital home that offers me safety and the ability to control my experience!

I am glad they are losing enough users that Microslop needs to make these changes...They recognize the damage their delusional pursuit of LLMs is going to do them long term harm for years. They have the capital to survive for a long time, but eventually that cash will run out because nobody is investing or using their services. Hell, Europe is forging a path of digital sovereignty. As using US tech will become a greater risk to European interests if the US government does something unhinged (the Trump Admin is very likely to force something of that nature).

I'll consider going back if they re-release 7 and the board of directors commits seppuku

[-] Zier@fedia.io 3 points 1 week ago

Interesting that they started removing it. I just watched the season finale of High Potential (US show) and they had a scene where one of the officers uses CoPilot to help her do police work. Pathetic!

The hilarious thing is Dave the former Microsoft Engineer beat out Microslop by 4 months, vibe coding an AI-less Notepad just for kicks.
